Pete_H Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Anyone speak Mandarin? http://aaj.americanalpineclub.org/climbs-and-expeditions/asia/china/xinjiang-province/2009-keketuohai-reconnaissance-by-d-gray/ Quote
Hugh Conway Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Nice bit of AAJ hyperbole there: "Traveling is dangerous, due to ethnic tension between the Uighers and Han Chinese. There were large riots in July and many subsequent ethnic incidents. Al Qaeda has now declared a jihad on the Han Chinese." Quote
Dan_Miller Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Looks like someone else got their monthly AAC email this morning as well. It's quite the nice granite formation. It's tough to understand that the whole area surrounding it is very little climbed. Lots more stuff to do in China it seems. Quote
Choada_Boy Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Yeah, like struggle to not starve to death instead of going rock climbing. Quote
111 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 beautiful, but looking at the trees at the base, its hard to compare this to the valley. The tower is only about 2 pitches of climbing. Still, it is a beautiful feature that would be an amazing climb. Quote
111 Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 ...ok, now that I clicked the link to the rest of the article, it does sound like there is a little more tall stuff there Quote
Pete_H Posted February 3, 2010 Author Posted February 3, 2010 If you look at the trees at the base it looks more like 5-7 pitches of climbing depending on the height of the trees. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 but hey why travel several days to climb that when there's unclimbed valleys of granite a couple hours away from home? Quote
Pete_H Posted February 4, 2010 Author Posted February 4, 2010 Because there's no hockey or Tim Horton's in China. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 But they have better Chinese firedrills and Peking duck Quote
Jon H Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 Those are some amazing looking huecos on the big slab - you could probably take a nap inside one. Quote
