tvashtarkatena Posted October 11, 2009 Posted October 11, 2009 12,000 Washington couples, including thousands of elderly folks who filed for domestic partnerships so as not to lose their pension and other benefits, will lose these benefits if this referendum isn't approved. A defeat here would deal a long term blow to today's civil rights movement. The polls are close on this one, and the opposing side is planning a well funded media blitz, full of lies, of course, the week before the campaign. Just as they did in California...successfully. If you believe that domestic partnership benefits (no, this bill referendum does not redefine 'marriage', as it's opponents keep claiming) should be granted to all Washingtonians, get out there in force and approve 71. It's one of the most significant and far reaching civil rights referendums in our state's history. Be an active part of that history. Ballots will be mailed Oct 16th. Quote

Pete_H Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Ironic. Apparently the two biggest activists opposing this referendum are closeted gay wife beaters and tax cheats. I'm not really suprised though. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/politics/2010058492_referendum7114m.html Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted October 14, 2009 Author Posted October 14, 2009 (edited) Bump. Ballots are out. Mail 'em in back in. Our Vancouver chapter, in its strenuous efforts to get SR 71 passed, has been actively monitoring the activities of Randall and Stickney. As it turns out, despite any possible inconsistencies regarding their personal lives, their motives are anything but ironic. It's money. They run a for-profit business running campaigns like this, and they are making a killing on this one. They realize that the tide of history is not in their favor, so they are making hay while the sun still shines. Basically, they are the political equivalent of an asset stripping corporation. Their signature talent is that, through tried and true, bigoted messaging and the right channels, they can effectively mobilize just about every rabid, anti-gay kook in Washington. We expect them to air the kind of incredible ads that were so successfully employed in California; we know roughly how much funding they have and it's formidable. By all accounts, it's going to be tough fight. So get everyone you know to fill out those ballots and send these two assclowns to the unemployment line.
