benb Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 My BD Icon is M.I.A. Before I replace it, I thought I would ask if there is a better piece of gear out there. I had no problems with my BD but was not super impressed with the plastic used. It had some duct tape holding the batery case closed. Thanks, B Quote
Peakpimp Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 (edited) I recently purchased a Mammut Lucidio and I must say that thing is worth every penny. I love it. Super bright and nice features in what, so far, seems to be a durable construction. -Josh Edited July 13, 2009 by Peakpimp Quote
JBo6 Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Avoid the Princeton Fuel, mine just met an early death as I pulled it out of my tent. The battery cover is held on by two pieces of plastic that are about 2mm thick, and both of those broke at the hinge. No hard use and have had it for about a year. Quote
Le Piston Posted July 13, 2009 Posted July 13, 2009 Another vote for the Lucidio. I used to use a BD Gemini, which I liked...but the Lucidio is much brigher for early a.m. navigation. I've heard several complaints about BD headlamps not being durable, but never had any problems with my Gemini. Quote
nhluhr Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Petzl Tikka XP is excellent. Single LED that is extremely bright, momentary boost mode for burning retinas, and a little flood/spot slider that is foolproof. Quote
MonkeyD Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I post another reply for the Mammut Lucido TX1, I haven't had it long so I can't attest to the durability but it is very bright I like the controls, and If it suits your needs it is nice to get the one with the remote battery pack, you can get three high capacity rechargeable C-cells and put them in your jacket to stay warm, you'll easily get two-three times the battery life versus the head-mounted battery pack. jmo Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I use a a Petzl tikka and a surefire G2 flashlight for routefinding in the dark. Quote
tomio Posted July 23, 2009 Posted July 23, 2009 I love my Princeton Aurora. Just a simple headlamp. Quote
