telemarker Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Trip: Colchuck Balanced Rock - West Face Date: 7/3/2009 Trip Report: I know, over TR'd, but oh well... I caddied for Pat Sullivan (Spiderman) last Friday on Colchuck Balanced Rock. Pat birdied the first two 5.11 cruxes, and bogied the 5.12 pitch, just missing the on-sight of the route. He rested a bit, scoped and sent the crux easily. Following are some photos: For Bug, Lake Colchuck from CBR: Fierce Crack: Starting then through the roof crux: 5.12 Pitch: Busted Cam: Near Summit, Vertical Pan: Gear Notes: Doubles up to #3 Camalot. 1x #4. Approach Notes: Yeah, you get to avoid Aasgard. Quote
mountainmatt Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Nice! The west face is a classic for sure! Its looking pretty dry up there now. Was the descent mostly snow free? Is there still snow in the boulder field just below the route? Hopefully I can get up there soon Quote
telemarker Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Thanks! The descent is 95% snow-free, with some plunge-stepping back to the packs. Quote
layton Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 nice spandex. i have a little throwup in my mouth now Quote
TRbetaFlash Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 I love that view from the underside of the roof. It's like the Mt. Stuart Show. Someone told me a long time back that spandex was a privilege and not a right. I probably shouldn't be talking though, I aided the .12 part. Nice TR, I need to get back up there. It's good stuff surrounded by slide alder hell and offwidth chimney shenanigans. Nothing's free these days.. Quote
spiderman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 After the fall at the 5.12 crux, I found a crutial knee bar to give me the reach I needed to grab the side pull on the second go. Ya'll didn't hear, wearing spandex is like eating your Wheaties! LOL. Just joking. When I was deciding which pair of alpine pants I wanted to thrash up the 5.9+ chimney with and tear up....those things won. Quote
spiderman Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 FYI-if you hit the right trail and follow the cairns, the slide alder is completely non-existent! Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Do you have any more pics of Colchuck Lake? ;-) Great pics! Quote
Bug Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 Pretty good. But you really should have got a fish jumping on the lake between those spandex covered legs. Quote
telemarker Posted July 7, 2009 Author Posted July 7, 2009 Pretty good. But you really should have got a fish jumping on the lake between those spandex covered legs. Oh! The fish! Dammit, I forgot. Okay, my next trip up there, which will be soon of course, I will get the "fish jumping in Colchuck Lake" photo. Quote
tazz Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 Come on! This shit is just too easy for you!! I think you need some pickets suffering to mix in with your rock skillz! Quote
