olyclimber Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 went to buy some ink for my canon inkjet, and the price is insane! have i been paying that price all along? for the cost of a full new set of ink i could just about throw the printer in the garbage and buy the same printer but with new ink. what are you using to print? anyone using online printing services for photos and going with a cheaper b&w printer for text and simple stuff at home? what online service for photos? denalidave Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Anyone try the new Kodak printers? They are cheap and so are the ink cartridges. I'm pretty jaded to any Kodak product though as I hate the "Not So Easy Share" software they have for digital cameras. Kodak Printers I would NEVER buy another Kodak digital camera but maybe someone has used these new printers and can offer some feedback? My Dad keeps saying he is getting one but we'll see. I go through the HP ink carts like candy and they are very expensive. I tried the refill option for a while but it seemed like I got less printing out of them and the quality sucked too. Quote
j_b Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I have been refilling my cartridges (on several brands of printers) with non-brand ink for years. It's trivially easy, gives excellent printing results and costs a very small fraction of what you'd pay for a brand cartridge. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 You can also buy the same printer that your office has and then steal ink from work, or just do all your printing at work while the boss is off golfing. Quote

denalidave Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 Costco Still expensive, but ya save a few bucks. Quote
Mal_Con Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I meant for printing although their ink is a bit cheaper. Canon is cheaper than HP or Lexmark because the nozzles are not in the cartridge unfortunately it makes ink quality more of a problem. I trashed a canon printer by refilling. Use a laer for B/W text it is much cheaper. Quote
pc313 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 (edited) Rite Aid,has the best deal for 4 x 6 if you get 25 or more ,but i have a Lexmark with #1 printer cartrige $22 but you can get them refilled for $9 Edited January 20, 2009 by pc313 Quote
markwebster Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 it's true that for the low priced printers you can buy a new one with cartridges for the same price as new ink. Ridiculous how that works. I had an epson 825 for 5 years and used to buy my ink at: http://www.inkjetmadness.com/ The prices were a fourth of what I'd find at officedepot and they worked fine. I'm sure they were made by starving peasants in some third world country though. Now I have a nicer printer (canon pixma pro 9000) that does 13x19 so I have been being careful to buy only canon ink to preserve the warranty. Quote
Dechristo Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I use Bartleby the Scribner. Ink costs are low but there are a lot things he won't do..."I'd prefer not to, at this time." Quote

At home, the only time I need to print is when I have a flight and am printing out the boarding pass. I use online services for photos. Print at home only in black&white. Quote
archenemy Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I used the printer at work. Now, I will simply spool my new print jobs and wait for my next job. Quote
