Braydon Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 (edited) what's it like in early january? Marc may be coming down christmas break and this is a route we really want to do. Edited October 19, 2008 by Braydon Quote
John Frieh Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 18 mile ski. Hwy 20 closes @ MP 170 and 134 each winter. Quote
Dan_Miller Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 "Graybeard" Peak Yes, I understood what you were referring to, however in the interest of correctness, I must correct. It's a really long ways in the winter, when the Highway is closed. Possibly accesible via snowmachine or a lengthy ski. Spring's the time, as soon as possible after the Highway opens. Â Talk to Wayne Wallace or Mike Layton, DC about the potential avalanche hazards. Â Cheers, Â Dan Quote
Braydon Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 January is a good month to die. Â enough said Quote
layton Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 it's a better spring route as the route on the face is a giant funnel Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 What is North Face of Greaybear? I've never heard of it? Is it a rock climb? A colouir? Quote
John Frieh Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Graybeard. Nelson Selected Vol 2 pg 165 Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 Oh, I know that. The author wrote "greybear" sounding to me like "grey-bear" and the central washington through me off. Quote
Trent Posted October 19, 2008 Posted October 19, 2008 Braydon: Even in spring, the central gully is an avy chute. Check out this TR. We climbed the route the same day and did not realize that this had happened; we just thought that the party below had bailed. Pick good conditions and get an early start! Quote
