bar-tacked Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I'm looking for some easy/moderate alpine ice climbs which can be climbed so late in the season. I just got into ice climbing (only climbed Observation Rock and spent few days on lower Coleman glacier until now ), and I'd like to get some more practice before the winter... Quote

TrogdortheBurninator Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 colfax might be in in october. I bet last years heavy snow will make for some nice fall alpine ice right now. Quote
Farrgo Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 Coleman headwall often has a Wi4 pitch at the base late in the fall, making it a little bit more interesting. Quote
kevino Posted October 2, 2008 Posted October 2, 2008 when did you climb observation rock? Last Sunday (9/28) And how were the conditions? You can shoot me a PM if you want. Quote

Braydon Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 isn't the north face of buckner melted out by now? anyone know? Quote
Argus Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 isn't the north face of buckner melted out by now? anyone know? Looked climbable as of last weekend. There were some big cracks across the face that you'd have to get around. There was about 6" of new snow plastered to the north faces in the area. Also, the road is closed at mile 20 adding to the approach. Quote
DPS Posted October 6, 2008 Posted October 6, 2008 isn't the north face of buckner melted out by now? anyone know? I would bet a dollar that it is melted out now. Quote
