Off_White Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 That's a remarkable photo archive, thanks. Quote
rmncwrtr Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 Thanks for the link, Porter. On Saturday, I was watching the news coverage of Ike and saw a picture of a cow on the steps of a house by the front door somewhere in Texas. I know they had many people to rescue so farm animals weren't a high priority, but I've been wondering about that poor cow. It really had no where to go. I've googled but never could find anything about it. Anyone know? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted September 15, 2008 Posted September 15, 2008 I have it. It's in my freezer. Quote

Like when we played with Sonny Boy, I would never get paid, you know. He would drink up all the money. " Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 I guess I don't understand why any rationale human being would choose to live a few feet above sea level in a storm surge prone area. It's not like living in an earthquake prone area, where most well built structures survive unscathed. You're house IS going to get fucked, period. Would anyone like to explain this to me? Quote
rmncwrtr Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 No explanation for you, Tvash, but I don't get why people when told staying would mean "certain death" would stay. Granted that turned out to be an exaggeration, but did they not read Issac's Storm or learn from what happened with Katrina? Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 The chance for a free cow, maybe? Quote

I'd say that you might want to examine the assumptions about rationality and choice that frame your question. Quote
Bogen Posted September 16, 2008 Posted September 16, 2008 Maybe the place is so damned beautiful that it is worth rebuilding every few years? Does insurance cover this sort of damage? Is this why that bank went bankrupt today? Quote
