Hugh Conway Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 it's about what gov't is supposed to pay for. private industry can pay quite well for roads Quote

KaskadskyjKozak Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 From Wikipedia: "The bridge was built as a four-lane toll bridge in 1963 to provide easy access from Seattle to Eastside communities such as Bellevue, Kirkland, and Redmond. It was the second bridge to cross Lake Washington, the first being the Lake Washington Floating Bridge, built in 1940 as part of U.S. Route 10, later part of Interstate 90, which at its construction was the largest floating structure ever built. Tolls were lifted from the Evergreen Point Bridge in 1979, and the wide area where tolls were collected is now used for bus stops." Anybody Seattlites here know what the toll was before it was removed in 1979? Quote
No. 13 Baby Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I thought the KKK guy was a hardcore bike commuter. This much whining must mean you anticipate pussying out on a lot of rainy days there, macho man! Quote
mattp Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I don't think KK rides across the Evergreen Bridge. I think we are talking about a general notion that government should pay for everything he wants but he shouldn't pay unreasonable tolls or taxes. That and that he thinks he could do a better job of overseeing the budget than anybody who has operated it for the last forever. Quote
No. 13 Baby Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 So its just whining for whining's sake. I dig. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 Found this . And according to an online inflation calculator: What cost $0.35 in 1979 would cost $1.10 in 2007. Guess our ROI on gov't projects is about 1/6th as good in 2008. Quote

akhalteke Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 My 6 year old cousin has more fiscal responsibility. He has a piggy bank and is waiting to buy a bike with the contents. Our state on the other hand, saves up money to buy a bike and then goes on a 3 year sugar binge. I would rather let my cousin decide where to allocate public funding in Washington. Quote
Fairweather Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) State coffers would be about $250 million per year fuller if our governor and the state DNC weren't busy taking bribes from state Indian tribes. Edited July 23, 2008 by Fairweather Quote
Fairweather Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) State spending has increased 33% since our current Dem governor and her rubber-stamp super-majority state legislature took power a mere 3 1/2 years ago. Edited July 23, 2008 by Fairweather Quote

akhalteke Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Where's my motherfucking light rail. Say, you know what would be good for global warming? A fucking light rail. You know what would be good to relieve traffic congestion? A Fucking light rail! Quote

mattp Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 SO now you and your fiscally responsible buddy Fairweather want to suggest that the State budget might be only 3/4 of what it is or less if the Governor were not "irresponsible." That could be, but now you are suggesting that the bridge construction take even that much MORE of a percentage of the State's operating budget. There are a lot of issues surrounding the new 520 bridge, but just what exactly is your problem with the possibility that it will have a toll? Quote

KaskadskyjKozak Posted July 23, 2008 Author Posted July 23, 2008 Whatever, dude. you saw my post above. $.35 in 1979 is $1.10 in today's dollars. Sounds like a reasonable toll. I disapprove of tolls in general, but $1 a day is not bad. But $7? And this state is about as irresponsible with money as they come, with a for-shit record on transportation projects. Quote
