65cm-ish ice axe w/ hammer instead of adze?

Anyone know of an ice axe that has a hammer instead of an adze that is as long as a more typical glacier - walking piolet rather than a technical ice tool? The BD Venom and Grivel Air Tech Evo seem to be only available in shorter lengths.

 

I think such a tool would be handy for summer alpine rock routes in the Cascades where one might carry an axe for approach purposes but also may need to place a pin or two.

 

I never seem to use the adze anyhoo.

I have seen someone carrying such a thing, but it was probably 5 or 10 years old. I don't know where you could find one though.

that is a pretty much retarded length to be hammering with.

 

 

i use a Grivel third tool for summer rock routes with snow approaches and it is about 40cm long. and seriously light, like 300g.

SMC Himalayan Hammer? I think that may be only up to 55 cm though. What are you on that is steep enough to need to pound pins but not need a second light tool? If you just want the axe for easy snow on the approach, just get used to using a short one. I find anything longer than 50 cm gets in my way while rock climbing anyways and I can arrest fine with a short axe.

try digging a t slot with a hammer or a pick. You might not have used the adze yet, but then maybe you have never had to deal with a partner in a crevasse.

Ditto on the adze--makes it much easier to hold on during self arrest.

 

Grivel makes a cheap third tool/hammer.

 

Not a bad idea to have the hammer, in your defense, I remember getting to an anchor on N. Mt. Index and we could lift both pins out by hand.
