sexual_chocolate Posted December 17, 2007 Posted December 17, 2007 "And if I know what is happening to me in the here and now, I don't need to ask the question, "What will happen to me after this body disintegrates?" There is no "before" and "after", just as there is no birth and death. We can be free of these notions in this very moment, filled with the great joyful silence of all that is." Quote

Living "in the moment" is a path to enlightenment in most if not all traditions. But it does not presupose a single reality. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 no, i don't think it does (although i cannot imagine what a "single reality" might be). Quote
TREETOAD Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 I already had one thought today, more than enough. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Here's the more of the quote: I don’t care at all what happens to me when I die. That’s why I have a lot of time to care about what is happening to me in the here and the now. When I walk, I want to enjoy every step I take. I want freedom and peace and joy in every step. So joy and peace and lightness are what I produce in that moment. I have inherited it and I pass it on to other people. If someone sees me walking this way and decides to walk mindfully for him or herself, then I am reborn in him or in her right away—that’s my continuation. That’s what is happening to me in the here and the now. And if I know what is happening to me in the here and the now, I don’t need to ask the question, “What will happen to me after this body disintegrates?” There is no “before” and “after,” just as there is no birth and death. We can be free of these notions in this very moment, filled with the great joyful silence of all that is. Excerpted from: This Silence is Called Great Joy, Thich Nhat Hanh, Shambhala Sun, September 2007. Quote
TREETOAD Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 Now that is a good thought, one certainly worth having every day. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 18, 2007 Posted December 18, 2007 The above quote gybe with what Arlo was saying in his Rock Warrior book. He advised to live in the moment and focus on what you are doing right now. Concentrate only on the moves you are making now and are about to make and not on reaching the top of the route or getting the redpoint. Your enjoyment of the climb with be enhanced, as will your ability to learn. Your performance will improve at the same time. Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted December 18, 2007 Author Posted December 18, 2007 ever read The Power of Now? cool read, methinks. lots of similarities to what thich nhat hanh and arno both write and speak of. Quote

It is a shame that it is so easy to forget the important shit you learn in life. It seems that you usually learn the best things when you are not looking. Quote
