minx Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 anybody know anyone who rents goats for land clearing? anybody have any experience with this clearing technique? Quote
archenemy Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I heard this getting talked about a lot on the radio. There is a local goat herder person who does this. I thought I remembered that the business was a clever name--lemme think on it and see if I can remember. The city used the service and said it worked well. Quote
minx Posted October 22, 2007 Author Posted October 22, 2007 thanks cj--need something here in W. WA. I found two folks referenced in a news paper story. I'm looking for others. Quote

AlpineK Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Goats rule for land cleanup. Â The city of Seattle needs goats all over the hillsides on Beacon Hill above I-5. There are a bunch of other places where they're needed around Seattle. Â BTW I am not joking about this. The city needs some cleanup. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 anybody know anyone who rents goats for land clearing? anybody have any experience with this clearing technique? Â My cousin cleared about an acre of blackberries with 200 rented goats. It took about a month. It is now beautifully landscaped garden, in Cali, so no useful contacts here. Goats work. Â Just a data point.... Quote
lizard_brain Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I know about them from the UW - they are using them to clean up parts of campus as an alternative to spraying toxins that will eventually wind up in Lake Washington, among other places. They rented something like 60, and they are talking about buying some and using them year round. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 Don't pet them during mating season. Trust me on that. Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I'd have to post the scratch n sniff format. Quote
archenemy Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 pee on your beard and we'll call it even. Quote
Off_White Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 You want goats? I think we have too many, though I often demur, "they're not my goats." I'm curious how they manage fencing for this land clearing business, my experience suggests they're crafty and hard on fences. Â Â Â Â Â It's really only the billys that smell, but boy do they ever. They have a fondness for peeing into their own mouths, and the girls seem to find that hawt. There's no "mating season" per se, the females go into heat and the boys are always ready. Having a billy on your farm affects the female's hormones and makes the milk much more "goaty" as well. I Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 I've now peed on my beard, and I even got my truck runnin'. Â Ladies, come git sum. Quote
archenemy Posted October 22, 2007 Posted October 22, 2007 it worries me that your post just dwindles away... Quote
