kevino Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 My buddy and I are in Ellensburg. We're looking for some new climbing to do this weekend. We've done umptanum and vantage and tried leavenworth a couple weeks ago. Any suggestions? We were thinking Hubba Hubba (but that report didn't sound too promising), lake Wenatchee, alpental or palisades? Any input would be great. Thanks. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 It looks pretty warm everywhere in washington this weekend. Maybe Mazama will stay cold enough. Quote
sobo Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 ...or palisades? Â I thought pretty much every established route in the Palisades area is closed to climbing because the access is across "unneighborly" private property? Quote
suckbm Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 hey kevino are you a student at cwu? strobach will be in, last weekend i left ellensburg at 4am and was on ice there by 8.30. Quote
kevino Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Yeah, we both go to cwu. How about yourself? Right now we're thinking about climbing at alpental and denny creek area. Anyone been up there lately? Â Strobach looks amazing, however the 2-3 hour hike doesn't...Pansy I know. Quote

Anyone been up there lately? Strobach........ the 2-3 hour hike doesn't...Pansy I know. Oh I miss my CWU days at the tav! If it was 4 hours and 30 minutes from home to the ice at Strobach living in Ellensburg, I'll assume it is 6:30 from Seattle in winter to Strobach ice- And you guys are in better shape then me! 8 hours to strobach from Seattle-ouch! I knew a guy that made it from Seattle to roadside Banff ice in 9 hours. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I knew a guy that made it from Seattle to roadside Banff ice in 9 hours. Â I'm officially going to attempt to beat this record Quote
brian_m Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Not with me driving Scott... I don't think my truck can go that fast. Besides, it is hard to make good time when you have to stop and fill up the tank at every station between here and Canmore :-) Quote
kevino Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 Anyone been out to denny creek? I saw the TR earlier, just wanted some better details on the approach there. Quote
TrogdortheBurninator Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I'd be surprised if that stuff was in. Those are pretty cold weather climbs. The alpental valley proper is probably a better bet. You can always climb at the rap wall if there isnt much real ice. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 Did you get my email man?? Mmmmmm.....Rockies Quote
NYC007 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I could see seattle to banff in 9 hrs, in good condtions in day time from spokane i have done sub 6 hrs not to far above speed limit.. Havent owned a car that likes tooo,., Quote

I'll post pictures in a little bit. Quote
kevino Posted January 29, 2007 Author Posted January 29, 2007 This weekend wasn't such a successful trip. Here are a couple pictures, nonetheless. Franklin Falls: Trying some mixed climbing on alpental: Â Hopefully we can find something next weekend! Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Think Banks Lake, or buck up and make the drive to Lillooet. Banks isn't that far and you can TR a lot of stuff. Quote
Alex Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 In heavy snow years like this one the Alpental stuff (which tends to be short anyway) gets pretty buried. Head east, young ice Jedi. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted January 29, 2007 Posted January 29, 2007 Have to admit the Rap Wall is pretty fun for a quick day outing though  Quote
