Jens Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Would anyone wager to make a guess about: I want to put the Black Diamond viper strike shaft attatchement on Petzl quark ice tools. Do you think it would fit or could be bent a little to make fit? Do you think it would slip? It's only 13 bucks to find out, but I was wondering if anyone else is using anything similar? Quote
bigwallpete Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 someone on here says it hasnt worked before. see ice climbing thread for recent reply on hose clamp use for trigger/match rest. Quote

Jens Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks for the link. The picture wouldn't be what I'd want because it is effectively designating each tool as either a right tool or left tool because the thumb would have to go around that big blocky screw. Quote
John Frieh Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks for the link. The picture wouldn't be what I'd want because it is effectively designating each tool as either a right tool or left tool because the thumb would have to go around that big blocky screw. No it doesn't. Quote
Weekend_Climberz Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Yeah, the strike is for laying the outer edge of your palm (next to the pinky finger) while you are choking up on it. It's not intended as a finger hook like this: Quote
dbb Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 Jens- it doesn't work. the Quark shaft is too big for the metal thing included with the "viper Strike". I opened one up and tried. I did talk to the Petzl rep at "rep night" and he said they are coming out with a simmilar thing for the quark next year. Quote
Jens Posted December 12, 2006 Author Posted December 12, 2006 Thanks Dave for the valuable information. Quote
NYC007 Posted December 12, 2006 Posted December 12, 2006 the slider leash( not a leash) from grivel should do fine. Quote
Chad_A Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 Hi, Jens- Just a quick note; the other day, I was looking for a birthday present for a pal of mine whom owns Cobras; after taking a set off the shelf, and trying the Grivel triggers (there's two different sizes; if you go to a shop that has them in stock [Jim?], maybe you can find a pair that will fit), I was able to find one of the sizes that will bolt on with a little modification (read: bending the metal a bit). Given the Quark has a slimmer grip than the Cobra, I'll bet you can find one of the sizes will fit with a bit of work. Quote
rhyang Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I just put the large Grivel triggers on my quarks a month ago. They seem to fit ok. So far so good to about WI3. Haven't really gotten on anything steeper this season yet - last season I was using them leashless at WI3 and clipped in to the leashes for anything steeper. Hopefully this season my footwork will be better Quote
Jens Posted December 13, 2006 Author Posted December 13, 2006 That grivel add on is nice for the pointer finger but isn't effective for a high match and has the same problem as those hose clamp rigs people have shown earlier. Quote
dbb Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 this thing looks like it would work (this is the piece NYC mentioned). it wouldn't have any annoying bolts or clamps to interfere with ergonomics: Quote
rhyang Posted December 13, 2006 Posted December 13, 2006 I've got one on my air tech evo axe ... did a little tinkering, and can confirm that it does fit around the quark's grip. Quote
bigwallpete Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 (edited) i went to look at these things today. how do you retro fit a hose clamp to work with it? Thanks for the help Edited December 14, 2006 by bigwallpete Quote
