Jens Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Really- how skinny can I go as far as a rope with a gri-gri.? I have one of the newer colored ones but it still says 10-11mm ropes only. Are their newer ones that are labeled differently? I've seen a lot of sponsored-sporto's using really skinny cords with gri-gris. Anyone have any help for me? Quote
colt45 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Works fine with my 9.4 (Mammut Dominator). My grigri is several years old and is labeled "10-11mm" Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 a friend got dropped 50 feet with a 9.1 through a grigri: yikes! it caught before he decked whew. Â my new 9.4 was kinda not too sticky through my grigri so i got me a cinch. way locker, but kinda tough at first to lower, until i got a feel for the short handle. there are a couple of new devices out there that are supposta be good with skinnies, and smoother on the lower. fenderfour Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 THey belay well enough on skinny ropes, but the lowering part can be pretty scary. Quote
matt_warfield Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I've wondered why they don't update the GriGri for the skinnier ropes or have two models maybe. Quote
fenderfour Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I've rapped on an 8mm with a grigri. Â How'd it go? I've used mine on a 9mm. It worked, but the lever action was "sporty". Quote

JosephH Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Edelrid EDDY Â "Eddy is the perfect belaying device for sport climbing for either novice or the experienced climber. The Eddy doesn't need much explanation and in simplicity is safety. Easy to thread, the rope follows logically the rope flow. A controlled descent with an emergency break system eliminates the "panic pull" syndrome which can lead to serious accidents. The Eddy provides maximum safety whether top roping or lead climbing with easy paying out of rope to the leader. Can be used for single ropes with diameters from 9 to 11.4 mm." Â Quote
sexual_chocolate Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 all for a mere 150 dollars(?). Quote
MattStan Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 It all comes down to how an individual cord behaves. I've had one Mammut Revelation 9.1 behave just fine and another be just a bit too zippy. I've also watched in morbid fascination as a beefy 9.8 slowly oozed through a Grigri under a body-weight toprope load. Once the dry coating roughened up it was fine, but oh-so-spooky at the beginning. Quote
