111 Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 I am heading off this weekend to climb washington and 3 finger jack. I have been up washington but never 3FJ. What should I expect? anyone been up there recently (saw the earlier Mt Washington TR). Quote
corvallisclimb Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Everything looks clear on TFJ. If your going to rope up for TFJ bring some long, like 20ft slings for anchors and 2 24" runners for fixed peices on the crawl. Some large nuts will protect the last pitch. Pretty straightforward, just follow the climbers trail. Quote
valleydude Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 Dude! Sweet! Let us know how it is up there! Quote
dan_forester Posted August 3, 2006 Posted August 3, 2006 lots of people solo 3FJ but given how crumbly the rock is on the last pitch I would recommend roping up. Take a really light rack with large stoppers and hexes. Â have fun; should be a great weekend! Quote
111 Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 Any snow on either route this time of year? How hard are the pitches on 3FJ? Quote
iain Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 no snow. Â Not hard, very exposed. 5.1? Â Your safety will come down to your evaluation of loose rock, not your climbing skill. Â I don't think lots of people solo 3FJ. But it is certainly soloable. Â Be careful on the loose rock. It killed a friend last year. After she soloed the hard stuff. Quote
gapertimmy Posted August 4, 2006 Posted August 4, 2006 I reccomend going in via Jack Lake for your 3fj trip. I'm guessing the meadows are going off with wildflowers right about now up there (and skeeters), but it is an enjoyable approach. Quote
111 Posted August 4, 2006 Author Posted August 4, 2006 thanks everyone. I'll post a TR when we get back. Quote
Couloir Posted August 7, 2006 Posted August 7, 2006 Spent the weekend at Canyon Creek Meadows (via Jack Lk.). Beautiful spot and we had the place to ourselves. Yes, lots of mosquitos, but the meadow is in full bloom now. The route is in as much as it will ever be (which isn't saying much). No snow. Echo the precautions mentioned above. Quote
