Alpinfox Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Rupal Face (~15,000') is the tallest mountain face in the world, but it's average slope over that distance is probably less than 70 degrees (wild guess). What is the highest ~90 degree face in the world? Wikipedia's answer: Mount Thor - 4,100' vertical. Quote
ncascademtns Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 The east face of Great Trango is the world's tallest vertical rock face. That is what Wikipedia states. Quote
lancegranite Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 As Dru would say... the highest face is the one having the most fun. Quote
Alpinfox Posted July 6, 2006 Author Posted July 6, 2006 I was expecting that one. It seems that Mt. Thor is having the most fun. Fun is aid. Quote
mattp Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 in the 1970's, I believe the generally accepted answer to this question was the Troll Wall in Norway. Middendorf article. Maybe it was just the biggest cliff that had been climbed as of that time. Quote
scot'teryx Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Mt Si is the largest Mountian in the Whole World, Tiger Mountain has the largest relief of anything in the world Quote

counterfeitfake Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 It would be nice if Wikipedia articles could at least not contradict themselves. Quote

Bug Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I've been out of touch for awhile. Why is Alpinefox's Avatar pink? Oh well. The tallest face in the world before or after the glaciers are melted? Quote
crackers Posted July 10, 2006 Posted July 10, 2006 I'd bet nobody knows. I know of a couple of places in Turkey and the Caucasus with 1100+ meter vertical faces. I've heard rumors of 1500+ meter granite on baffin and god knows what down in Antarctica. Climbers lie, but who knows... Quote
G-spotter Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 I have photos of 2000m vertical granite faces in the BC fjords. There are 3 of them. Quote
ken4ord Posted July 11, 2006 Posted July 11, 2006 So where are these pictures if you have them? The highest one that I have heard on on this continent is Mount Mulange which have a 1700m face on it, I guess most of it is slab. Quote
