I am hoping to climb Adams South Spur the weekend of the 20th and Hood southside sometime the week following that. Does anyone have some knowledge of how serious the avalanche danger is on these routes both in normal contitions and now with the extra snow? I have taken avi 1, and I have been checking out the NWAC website and the forest service climbing reports, but some more specific info would be much appreciated. -- thanks

I've been up the South Spur of Mt Adams twice before but later in the season. I'm afraid I can't comment on the current conditions.
Wow...thank you for this timely indispensible beta! yellaf.gif

hey, It's hard to give avy advice b/c if you die, we'd feel awful guilty. so any decision you make is your own.

That said, glaciated volcanoes generally have a lower avy hazard, and with such a stable snowpack for the mega-heat wave, I doubt any new activity is enough to worry about.

Check the avy forecast before you go, assess the snowpack on your own by digging pits in as many types of terrain as possible, and bail if you are in the least bit concerned.

I'd go, however.
