Peter_Puget Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 • Denial: "I did not chip." • Anger: "How dare you accuse me of chipping that hold." • Bargaining: "You’re a f@$#ing chipper!" • Justification: "It's a shitty crag." • Acceptance: "People climb it, who cares.” Quote
Johnny_Tuff Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 4 stars. Funny, that's exactly what many chipped routes get! Quote
Squid Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Well, I would never climb a chipped route. Then again, no one would bother to chip a 5.8 Quote
G-spotter Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 1. Comfortizing existing pockets 2. Making new pockets to link existing features 3. Full sculpting of route from rock. 4. Quarrying whole cliff out of flat ground 5. Quote
matt_m Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Maybe it's me and some time spent in Europe but I think Via Ferratas IN THE RIGHT PLACES, are cool. They're certainly NOT all gumby ladders - some have quite a pucker factor... Quote
Johnny_Tuff Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Then again, no one would bother to chip a 5.8 Hey, now; there's no need to be defeatist. Borrow a drill and create your own masterpiece! Quote
Off_White Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Given that my craglet was pretty much created via Dru's 4th level of hell, does that mean anything lighter than that offense doesn't rate as an ethical violation? I think it's gonna take at least level two, and maybe three to make a 5.8 for Squid. I think this shot is my cliff round about 1910. Quote
G-spotter Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 So are you gonna put in one of these "EXTREME" puckerfactor via ferratas then? Quote
Off_White Posted April 7, 2006 Posted April 7, 2006 Well, there's an overhanging wall thats too hard for anyone I climb with... Quote

Who knows how many other gems like that are lurking beneath the lackluster outcrops of mossy choss that dot the landscape? Could be classics galore to be had, if someone would get a thoroughly industrial chipping operation such as that in effect. Mmmmm... Quote
RICHARD_CILLEY Posted April 8, 2006 Posted April 8, 2006 Off,Don,t chip it or I,ll never come back.Leave 1 last great problem in Wa. Quote
