Peter_Puget Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 What groups performed the songs that the following three routes at the Lower Town Town Wall were named after: Sonic Reducer, Pretty Vacant, amd Terminal Preppie. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted May 15, 2001 Author Posted May 15, 2001 oops should have been a reply to the music thread not a start of a new one! Quote
Dru Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Well, move it away from music a bit then, what other world-famous climbing area has a route called Pretty Vacant (hint, routes called Furry Pink and Rock The Casbah are located in the same area) Quote
Dru Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Retro, new trivia champion, now can you answer PP's original question??? Quote
Retrosaurus Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 No answer to PP's Q? But another trivia test. Why is Library Ledge on Outer Space named as such? Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 I always thought it was a mellow spot to sit and read a book?? Quote
Dru Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 How about because if you don't book up that climb, you will be overdue for return to the parking lot? Quote
mark Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 I heard a story that it was called library ledge because a porno magazine was left there stashed behind a flake. True? Quote
Retrosaurus Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 !!! Winner !!! But it was more like a library, than a single mag. Quote
pope Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Sex Pistols? My second guess would be New York Dolls. Quote
Mer Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Sonic Reducer: Pearl Jam (Dead Boys cover) Pretty Vacant: Sex Pistols Terminal Preppy: Dead Kennedys Amazing what you can get accomplished with a search engine, and a little free time at work. Quote
forrest_m Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 speaking of index musical route names, i've always wanted some explanation of "ted nugent in a basket". anyone have any ideas? as long as we're on index trivia, anyone know who Walter B. is and why we're apologizing to him? Quote
ScottP Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 More Index trivia: What is the nickname of the person largely responsible for hanging the boarshead from bolts on Model Worker AND why was the tradition finally stopped? Quote
Dru Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Even more Index trivia - to which of the individualFirst ascencionists' lives outside climbing do the individual words of "School, work, rehab" refer to? Quote
AlpineK Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 Chief Pig Rigger: Big John. At least he did most of the public relations regarding pig rigging. The tradition stoped when Fred Grafton threatened to punch him. I should add that it was Fred who first discovered a supply of hog's heads [This message has been edited by AlpineK (edited 05-15-2001).] [This message has been edited by AlpineK (edited 05-15-2001).] Quote
crazyjizzy Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 I think that "two-faced piece of shit" did most of the rigging, while BJ basked in glory of blame. These two were definetly in the Glimmer twins mold. But Joe also played an important role. How did we do ScottP? On to Walter B. When Dan Lepeska placed that bolt (twenty years ago), it was actually a big deal - rapp bolts. Thence the name, because he felt Walter Bonatti was the epitome of climbing purity. Quote
ScottP Posted May 15, 2001 Posted May 15, 2001 My source said Fred threatened to punch out the lights of a guy named "Shop Boy". Is this Big John? (He didn't divulge Shop Boy's true identity.) Quote
AlpineK Posted May 16, 2001 Posted May 16, 2001 Shop Boy gets only 1/2 credit. BJ and his buddy the rat were the prime movers behind the pig. Ditto Crazyjz don't listen to Al Quote
ScottP Posted May 16, 2001 Posted May 16, 2001 It wasn't Al. BTW, for another $200.00 and what's behind the curtain, who did the first ascent of Princely Ambitions after the block fell off? Â Quote
pope Posted May 16, 2001 Posted May 16, 2001 Mike Massey. I'll take the $200, but I don't want what's behind the curtain, I'm pretty sure. Quote
ScottP Posted May 16, 2001 Posted May 16, 2001 It wasn't Mike Massey, unless he missed crucial holds and bypassed obvious gear placements (the latter possibly being the case if Mike's reputation is what I hear it is.). [This message has been edited by ScottP (edited 05-15-2001).] Quote
