NYC007 Posted August 7, 2005 Posted August 7, 2005 At 11:30, On the way to the trail head 5 miles up the road the Sherrif and local SAR, turned up around due to a BAD fire which started less then 24 hrs ago. They said the area was evacutated but the fire was about to get to the road very shortly.. This is all I know so far.. Dont try to sleep in the parking lot at the BBQ place on 970 either the rent cop is a dick with a gun.... Quote
NYC007 Posted August 7, 2005 Author Posted August 7, 2005 oh yeah, pretty big fire probally on the rd by now. See the news for more Quote
daylward Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 I saw a fire over there today from the top of Dragontail and I was wondering if it was near the Teanaway river road... Definitely still burning! There was also a fire to the north, looked like near highway 2 or maybe up toward Lake Wenatchee? It was smaller and looked like it had just started... Things must be getting pretty crispy out there! MisterMo Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 There was a fire on Dirty Face Mountain at Lake Wenatchee last week. Most likely still burning to some extent & maybe what you saw. Don't know how controlled it was but as of thursday the residential evacuation deal had gone down from a 3 to a 2 Quote
NYC007 Posted August 8, 2005 Author Posted August 8, 2005 as of yesterday the Teanaway fire was 10% contained per the news Quote
John Frieh Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 Tried to go in Sat. night but road was closed at that time and ranger/fire guys commented that they expected about a week before it was open. Fire is not headed for stuart but appears to be headed directly for the fish hatchery (fish sticks anyone?). One can still access Stuie, etc from the North side but have fun with the Sherpa. Quote
gyselinck Posted August 8, 2005 Posted August 8, 2005 i have been thinking about this alot, i think one might be able to get down the ice cliff arete pretty easy, a few raps and lots of 2nd and third class, very straight forward. Next time i climb stuart I will go down that way. Quote
bobbyperu Posted August 9, 2005 Posted August 9, 2005 theres more options for returning to mtneer cr. for north side routes...on example is the one we used a while back after doing the n. ridge...head east to sherpa...climb it, or not...we continued near the crest (sux) but one could descend to the south a ways, below these ribs...(easy) then ascend back up to sherpa pass...head directly down (n.) back to mtneer cr. very scenic...very straight forward...water... flowers...etc. Quote
kurthicks Posted August 11, 2005 Posted August 11, 2005 (edited) "The fire is 75% contained... All road closures and restrictions will be lifted at 6 PM tonight, allowing public access to recreation areas." http://199.134.225.53/lickcreek/ Oh yea... "Cause: A piece of logging equipment caught fire and spread to the timber" figures. Edited August 11, 2005 by wazzumountaineer Quote
