I’m still compiling my summer Cascade binge/tick list…anybody made it up Yellow Jacket Tower(up Icicle Creek)??

lotsa hiking for a little rock climbing. tho the position over the canyon is nice. it is a mounie trade route so just about anyone other then a wheel chaired person can make it.

the rock looks better from the road. blocky climbing. better to go send condor addict route.

It's all of about half a pitch of climbing, and the approach is a crumbly, eroding, mess ripe for trundling rocks onto your partner. I give YJT two thumbs down

Outside the trade route what about them big NW facing slabs leading to pillars on the Hook Creek side of the tower you can see from around Icicle Buttress. It's hard to believe no one's checked it out!?

Ben's right, slabs look far better and more continuous from the road than they actually are.

Yellow Jacket tower rules. I've never been there but it rules none the less. If you don't know why Ben try reading the information in the Beckey book.

Climbed it in winter w/ joshk a few years ago - some interesting mixed climbing just below the tower, big snow-filled crack to the top - all in all pretty lackluster though

Did the NW face several years ago and found the rock substandard. The slabs were flaky. The cracks were good and there were several options for topping out including a long offwidth if you were so inclined.

There is some new route development on the east side of the tower that might be worth checking out.
