Couloir Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Just picked up this book. A pretty good read so far. He has a lot of good insight into climbing smarter, ligher, faster...the whole deal. And rebukes many myths that seem to circulate pretty heavily in this world. And the pictures are incredible! I'm sure the people close to him, and those that have also climbed with him have their personal opinions about the guy, but he definitely has the huevos where some of those pictures are taken. Good stuff! Quote
foolscongress Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 his take on clothing was what helped me most. don't know if they were his ideas first, but i read about them first in that book. his training ideas don't suck either, but i'm not man enough to do them fully. Quote

griz Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 yes, a giving and caring soul. his work in the orphanages is moving and makes me want to be a better person. Quote
cracked Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 the sensitive and, like griz said, caring nature displayed in Kiss or Kill is heartwarming. Quote

cj001f Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 Like Beyond Backpacking for climbing except without all the freaky fruity shit and pseudoscience. Quote
glen Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 My favorite quote from the book (may be paraphrased): "It doesn't have to be fun to be fun." Useful for graduate school too. Quote
forrest_m Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 “The goal of physical training for alpine climbing can be summed up in one phrase: to make yourself as indestructable as possible. The harder you are to kill, the longer you will last in the mountains.” useful when trying to decide if you really need to go running tonight. Quote
Alex Posted January 28, 2005 Posted January 28, 2005 I've always maintained that the more you train, the less time there is to paint the house. So I don't train. Quote

Couloir Posted January 29, 2005 Author Posted January 29, 2005 "Sometimes you'll suffer, which is what alpinism is all about anyway. Enjoy it, it's what you signed on for." Fuckin-A right! Quote
