RobBob Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Can somebody please advise an out-of-towner on good places to run in the Seattle area (weather permitting)? I've gotta be in town for work a couple of days next wk. Would like to be able to run in a safe, scenic place, w/in say 30 minutes of downtown. Where's best? Quote
DPS Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park is primo and just 30 minutes from downtown by car. http://www5.metrokc.gov/reports/parkinfo/getParkInfo.asp?PID=2647,Cougar%20Mountain%20Regional%20Wildland%20Park If you don't have access to a car, then Greenlake and Woodland Park is ok. Worked on some land acquistion projects up there 10 yrs ago. No mt bikes allowed, varied terrain. In town I would go for Discovery Park. For some varied short loops Ravenna Park is good, particularly if you tack it onto a longer run. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 RobBob, will you be in town on Tuesday? If so, a stop at Pub Club is mandatory. Quote
RobBob Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 And where would I find Pube Club this coming Tues? Quote
Jim Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Jim, Do you work for KC? Nope. Consulting ecologist. Had a KC job to help out on the Cougar Mt. master plan. Veg mapping, historical wildlife use, landscape ecology and trail planning. Got to talk with a lot of folks that live nearby and some had great videos of bobcat and cougars in their back yards. Also spent some time with Harvey Manning at his house. What a hoot that guy is. And he's been around the block a few times. Quote

Hey Rob- From downtown you can have a nice waterfront run. Go north to Myrtle Edwards Park, which is a linear park along the waterfront. Keep an eye out for seals, sealions, and falcons picking off pigeons near the grain elevators. You can get to Discovery Park this way by following the trail throught the train yard, going straight on to the street at the sharp left tur, then keep going straight to the park. Though this is likely a 12 mi round trip. Mytle Edwards is your best bet if you don't have a car, and you can stay on dirt or grass (soggy) if you don't like asphalt. Quote
RobBob Posted December 8, 2004 Author Posted December 8, 2004 This sounds good...ideal mid-week run for me would be 5-6 miles. Waterfront is nice. Quote
DPS Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 I just got back from Myrtle Edwards park run. I do it on my lunch break. Quote
catbirdseat Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 Monitor the Events Forum for Pube Club 12/14, and hopefully Dave will get it organized. Quote
ScottP Posted December 8, 2004 Posted December 8, 2004 I like The Rattlesnake Ledge trail. The first couple of miles are nice and wide. The view from the top of the ledge is good and it isn't too far out of town. Quote
Skeezix Posted December 9, 2004 Posted December 9, 2004 Bogachiel River Trail. But there's a ferry ride involved. Quote
