Zoran Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 My friend from Europe will spend winter in Pullman (University). Do you have any suggestion for him what to bring to play around the city (rock gear, backcountry skiing, ice tools ...)? I am not familiar with the area but I am positive you will give him some ideas. Thanks. Zoran Quote
Jake_Gano Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 Do you have any suggestion for him what to bring to play around the city Winter in pullman? Liquor, umm, some good books, and lots of hopes and dreams Actually, the best thing he can possibly bring is a car and he better be willing to drive it a ways to get to good climbing. There's some small crags that are close at hand, but anything substantial and he'll have to go a ways. When he's in the area have him got talk to John Crock at hyperspud in Moscow, he can give beta for anything climbable in the area. Good luck. Quote
specialed Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 If you have a friend with a snow machine you could get him to tow you behind it through the pallouse. Then you could pretend your skiing down a big open glacier. Just watch out for the cows. Quote
pzack Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 There's a climbing gym on campus that he can make use of... but it can get a little bit cosy at times: Also, there's usually a few days of snow, and you can cross country ski through the lentil fields. Quasi-Wilderness in the area. Also, there is a WSU Alpine Club. I'm not sure how you'd get ahold of them. Also, as a student, you can rent a lot of alpine gear Go Cougs! Quote
kurthicks Posted November 2, 2004 Posted November 2, 2004 (edited) check the other thread too, i posted a lengthy response there . Jake is right on about being willing to drive. perhaps the most important thing to bring then is $ to pay for gas... FYI the Alpine Club meets the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at the ORC. their website is http://cub.wsu.edu/wsualpine/ Edited November 2, 2004 by wazzumountaineer Quote
