Rad Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Bears are smart enough to avoid Bush! ........................................... Bear downs 36 beers, passes out at campground Rainier, not Busch, the beverage of choice for thirsty black bear. BAKER LAKE, Wash. - When state Fish and Wildlife agents recently found a black bear passed out on the lawn of Baker Lake Resort, there were some clues scattered nearby — dozens of empty cans of Rainier Beer. The bear apparently got into campers’ coolers and used his claws and teeth to puncture the cans. And not just any cans. “He drank the Rainier and wouldn’t drink the Busch beer,” said Lisa Broxson, bookkeeper at the campground and cabins resort east of Mount Baker. Fish and Wildlife enforcement Sgt. Bill Heinck said the bear did try one can of Busch, but ignored the rest. The beast then consumed about 36 cans of Rainier. A wildlife agent tried to chase the bear from the campground but the animal just climbed a tree to sleep it off for another four hours. Agents finally herded the bear away, but it returned the next morning. Agents then used a large, humane trap to capture it for relocation, baiting the trap with the usual: doughnuts, honey and, in this case, two open cans of Rainier. That did the trick. “This is a new one on me,” Heinck said. “I’ve known them to get into cans, but nothing like this. And it definitely had a preference.” Quote
Dru Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 there IS an echo in here... third time this has been posted Quote
klenke Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 But Rad isn't smart enough to search through the forums. Quote
iain Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 what's he supposed to do, "oh I better do a quick search for the drunken bear story to make sure it has not been posted before" Quote
Rad Posted August 19, 2004 Author Posted August 19, 2004 By still smarter than the average bear. Will search first next time and wear the dunce cap in the corner for an hour now. Quote
iain Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I have a story about drunken eskimos on vacation in guam, but I'll be sure to do a search for it first in case it has already been discussed. Quote
rbw1966 Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 I have a story about eating cornish hens while wearing galoshes to prevent toe-sucking at a dwarf-tossing contest. I better search that one too. Quote
iain Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Can't have too many stories about that. Post away. Quote
tomtom Posted August 19, 2004 Posted August 19, 2004 Is there anything about the Mountaineers here? Quote
Chad_A Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Glad they posted it, actually. Wouldn't have thought to search for a post like that; wish I didn't work in a dungeon all day. Quote
lancegranite Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 Something about this story reminds me of the way the northwest used to be... a 70' story. More of a logger's northwest. Back then, they would have kept him and fed him beer every day. I think back to when Everett's Forest park had 2 bears in a cage, they lived there for years. Quote
dmuja Posted August 20, 2004 Posted August 20, 2004 I'm putting together an 8k expedition....ummm, I'd better do a search first Doug Quote
