Crose Posted March 29, 2001 Posted March 29, 2001 This is for Who Cares...your Mother must be disapointed in you...... I'm going home and packing my gear and heading to Heliotrope Ridge after work if anyone cares to join me? I can't sleep knowing two fellow climbers need help! Quote
rayborbon Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 For any that I offended in the previous thread I apologize. I just saw no need to pounce upon and speculate about skills and abilities of the missing guys. All the people I climb with and have in the past know I have strong beliefs... I am a pretty easy going person to say the least. I would feel somewhat personally offended if someone were to make some of those comments that I saw.. Regardless of what anyone thinks I will continue to speak my mind as I always do. For those that wanna slam and speculate about those 2 guys I disagree. Try speaking some of that stuff to their family members... Everybody is climbing for whatever reasons and all but to bring in the Superiority \ Arrogance about this situation is a disgrace. Those are 2 people missing and no I am not out there looking for them but I do care even if I don't know either guy. It's nothing but a tragedy. I will be out there everybody and if you meet me in person you will surely find that I am not an immature jerk spraying on this site etc. Have fun out there and be safe. -Ray Quote
erik Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 ray 110% the time i take no offense to any of your comments, as i to love to give a good ole' fashioned ribbing myself. but to name people, that you are not sure thats who it really is, now that is rude. i personally really..really do not believe it is yoder...he is not mean spirited! i have known him for years and look up to him as a climbing mentor..nothing he has ever taught falls into that category. unless you really know the facts i would not speculate.(except on route beta thats fun ) wether you and him don't like each other has no bearing on the post or anything. so i please ask you to retract your statement about him. i don't think he even knows about internet anyway. thanks ray Quote
rayborbon Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 Sorry bro but the only guy that == that level of experience and knows me and I don't get along with is him. I have sent emails back and forth with past (not friendly ones either). Yeah I take it back but what would you think if you were in my shoes. See you out there. -Ray Quote
erik Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 i talk the shit and take it as well, sometime not well, but i can't be a spoilsport. i personally wouldn't be in your shoes as i got rid of my confrontational side in the valley last fall. once i did that me soul was light enough to send routes a grade harder. jah Quote
rayborbon Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 Haha well said! Ray shut's the &&^ up then. Drink one for ya bro! I like your spirit! -Ray Quote
mikeadam Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 Crose, I'll go up there with you. How can I reach you? Mike Quote
jon Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 Mike and Crose, I just want to forewarn you guys that typically the SAR people do not allow others to help on missions. I’m not saying don’t go or they won’t let you help, this is just my observation from being in SAR for a number of years. Unfortunately there is a bunch of liability issues and state guidelines they have to follow. It’s great you want to help though and really hope they find these guys alive and in one piece. Let us know if you hear anything. Quote
mikeadam Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 Jon, I suspected as much. I was just trying to reach Timmy. Can you email me your #. Mike Quote
dbb Posted March 30, 2001 Posted March 30, 2001 yep, jon pretty much has it there. Like when wacked out family members was to "go git 'em". My advice is if you want to go search, by all means go and do it, just don't let the sherif know. SAR can be pretty frustrating with all the varying experience (more often than not, the lack of), and this causes sherifs who don't climb to be conservative. Maybe too conservative. This leads to a lot of sitting around and half-assed searches that hope to "get lucky". If you actually sent a fast and strong team of 2-4 climbers in who know the area, I bet you'd have better luck. For some reason most searches never go into overnighters. My guess is that these climbers are a little farther away than a day's hike! Obviously what the sar people are doing is important, and often does yield good results, but don't think that because you don't wear the blue hat that you can't go out and look yourself. Quote
Alpine_Tom Posted April 7, 2001 Posted April 7, 2001 Not to change the subject... but has there been any further word on those two Baker climbers? It's been a week, and if they were as poorly equipped as the news coverage indicates, it seems like they might be all out of luck. Quote
jon Posted April 7, 2001 Posted April 7, 2001 Last I read they pretty much called the search off with the exception of some snow mobile search volunteers. Hopefully they will find these two this summer to put a little closure on the incident. I guess you can never take a quick day trip for granted...... Quote
Doug Posted April 12, 2001 Posted April 12, 2001 I heard on the radio this morning that one of these missing climbers bodies was found and recovered near the summit of Mt. Baker. Crose, is that of the Ephrata & legendary Mt. Rainier to Ocean Shores Running Team? Quote
erik Posted April 20, 2001 Posted April 20, 2001 http://www.nps.gov/morningreport/msg00828.html here is the unfortunate official report for the recovery of one of the missing climbers on Baker. Quote
Paul_detrick Posted April 20, 2001 Posted April 20, 2001 Doug are YOu the one we did the race with,no that was not Harold. Paul Quote
CascadeClimber Posted April 21, 2001 Posted April 21, 2001 That is unfortunate. From a learning from mistakes standpoint, I'd like to hear about any more info. Also, it is interesting to me how precisely wrong they were about the height of the mountain. Hopefully the rest of the report is more accurate. -CC Quote
Dru Posted April 21, 2001 Posted April 21, 2001 You think that report is depressing look at the next one down on that page about the guy that hanged himself because his girlfriend and best friend "for an April fools joke" told him they were dating! whoa imagine if you were one of them - heavy life long guilt! of course maybe they WERE dating in secret and just set it up! (at least boltmonster and his goat won't have that problem !) Quote
