RobBob Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Just got the road bike I bought on eBay, and I'm as excited as a kid with a new puppy. I haven't owned a fast bike in 20 years. Got this one to try out a short tri this fall, just for fun. Now I face that aspect of cycling that I always hated before...the old torture-in-the-ass bike seat. Any suggestions on a seat upgrade that has padding/no pressure on "the zone ," without weighing a lot more? I've got a Trek mtn bike that has pretty good ergo seat, but I'm guessing it weighs a lb more than the current road bike seat. Quote
willstrickland Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 265 grams. Selle Italia Flite Gel Flow Ti rail Quote
Lambone Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 The Terry seats are pretty good. I have a Specialized seat that came stock with my Roubaix that I really like. The mor eyou ride the less your seat will hurt your ass. Have fun! Quote
sketchfest Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 Avocet used to make a saddle called the o2, super comfortable and fairly light, but the only time I see them now is on Sierra trading post or Performance bike as some kinda close out deal. Quote
RobBob Posted July 6, 2004 Author Posted July 6, 2004 the only time I see them now is on Sierra trading post or Performance bike as some kinda close out deal. maybe that's the one to get then! thanx for the help guys. it's that "middle ground" pain I don't like, that's worse than ass-pain...and I don't wanna be worrying what it's doing to my prostate. Off_White Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 I think its riding with just the seatpost that poses the most threat to your prostate. Quote
ken4ord Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 I'll second Selle Italia Flite saddle, it is the way to go, the only seat I'll use. There expensive but worth it. Quote
sketchfest Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 I paid $120 for mine at the Fat Tire Farm, then turned around a week later and found it online for $60 Quote

I find it 40-50% less online. The Flite saddle's are Quote
tivoli_mike Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Try the brooks leather B-17 saddle. Slightly wider than most road racing seats, breaks in well ( hey its leather ), and you can get it pretty light ( one model I believe comes with titanium rails ). Quote
bDubyaH Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 if you think you will get into more serious riding i.e. centuries and the occassional race or even if you just plan on long sessions in the saddle i highly reccommend one with limited if any cushioning. it will take a few weeks to get yor sit bomes adjusted, but after that you are much better off for long rides. whatever you do avoid squishy soft saddles, they just put pressure on your squishy parts that shouldn't bet gettin' squished! sketchfest Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Just got my Bike Nashbar catalog and the Selle Max Flite saddle is on sale for $80. It's not a narrow as the Selle elite, but it's a pretty nice saddle all the same. Quote
