Stonehead Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 Awight, you think you're smart, try this game. Pearls Before Swine The link takes you to the main page. Hover your cursor over the guy lounging on the couch. Then select the game called Pearls Before Swine. Good luck. Let me know if you win and how you did it. Quote

Stonehead Posted June 10, 2004 Author Posted June 10, 2004 It starts out with the 5-4-3 combination. It's your move first. Quote

But why wouldn't he just wipe out the last row after your first move? As long as there are two rows each with more than one pearl, and it's your move, he cannot lose... error in the algorithm? Quote
Gripped Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 It starts out with the 5-4-3 combination. It's your move first. Right. For your first move, take two stones from the smallest row (so there is one stone left). Quote

Once you get 5-4-1, and it's his move, you can force a win. Quote

chucK Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 No you're not. He clears the 1 pearl, then it's 5-4-0 YM 4-4-0 He's lost If you were correct, then you could win by starting out clearing the 3 row. Quote
ashw_justin Posted June 10, 2004 Posted June 10, 2004 yeah I guess that's right. Got the second one though. I just memorized the losing combinations so I could go through iterations quickly on three browsers. Haha I am uber- today... Anybody have a more elegant strategy besides just knowing when to stick him with a losing combo? Quote
