Yeah I would love to see my name in the guidebooks or alpine journals too. In fact I think I even had a dream about that once. I would love to climb with some famous climbers that have done a lot of first ascents like Fred Beckey or Don Serl but cause I am such a nobody I guess I will have to keep dreaming. maybe if I practice hard by climbing a lot of 5.7s this summer I will be good enough to bolt some cracks by next year. It sure is a shame I live in an overdeveloped climbing area where there are no new routes to be done and all the peaks and cliffs within 5 days drive were climbed out a long time ago... Â Thanks crackbolter for pointing out what a gaper I am. I never realized? Sheeeeit if only I could do a first ascent by bolting my way up some cracks then I might suddenly like climbing again right... Â Quote
Crackbolter Posted June 7, 2002 Posted June 7, 2002 Dru, Â I am the Gaper. I am the one who tried to give insight who really doesn't want any. It seem that you really don't want advice as much as you would rather rag on other peoples's answers. Your talk of no more unclimbed peaks is the biggest bullshit ever. If you are not willing to bend over and take it in the ass like my little prison bitch I'll have to track you down and ...... well, you know. You have just boared me. Quote

snoboy Posted January 1, 2003 Posted January 1, 2003 Crackbolter (your name alone is a troll!): Â I think if you give "advice" to someone and make a whole lot of broad assumptions about them, then you must expect them to shoot down your response. Â In this case your assumptions were so far off base that they fit into the "reduction into absurdity" category or something like that. Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 The underlying assumption here is that climbing is (or should be) a lifelong pursuit. There are all sorts of great sports in this world. Before I came to the PNW I lived in Southern California and was into competitive sailing bigtime. I lived and breathed it. Before that there was surfing. Â Ken Carpenter, a Seattle climber of some note in the 60's and 70's gave up climbing and took up running marathons. A good friend of mine gave up climbing for golf. Â Why not try something else for a while? Canyoneering, white water rafting, base jumping? Maybe when you come back to climbing in a while you'll have a fresh perspective. Â Right now I can't see myself doing anything other than climbing, but there will come a time when either my body will not allow me to partake or I will lose interest. I know that I will plough into some new thing with the same enthusiasm I had for sailing and climbing. Quote
fleblebleb Posted January 4, 2003 Posted January 4, 2003 Ah yes, the classic you-should-stop-climbing-so-there-will-be-more-solitude-for-me argument Quote
Dru Posted January 8, 2003 Author Posted January 8, 2003 AAAAh it brings a tear to my eye to see that Snoboy has ressurected such a beautiful thread.
