Knee Deep Wonderfulness !!!!!!! in source lake basin and above today. Spoke with two Alpental Ski Patrol on the way up. They said the area was mostly firm with 8-9" of POW. They were not jokin'.......

today was great. tomorrow will be greater.

Would that be greater in windspeed, greater in the amount of flat light or greater in the length of lift lines at Meadows?

My nose still tingles from the wind and--despite the tylenol--my head still hurts from this morning's skiing-induced vertigo.

I guess Jack's Woods wasn't so bad when they finally opened it . . .

coupla times I had to stop skiing and wait about 5 minutes to be able to see at least 5 feet ahead of me. Time to start carrying rocks in my pocket to roll down the hill

Thanks and a shout out to all the nice skiers who left the few steep tree shots near Tilly Jane un-touched for me this afternoon.

Mighty neighborly of you! wave.gif

How do you you typically access Newton Creek? I ask as Van Tilburg's Backcountry Gape Oregon book recommends skinning up the Heather runout, ascending Pea Gravel, then descending into Newton Creek. It seems to me skinning up the Netwon Creek runout from the nordic area would make more sense.

There are several ways in, but my current fav is just to cross Clark creek and take a hard left heading up the spine of the ridge. Thread up thru the trees until you start seeing shots to your right or continue going up until you reach the bowls just above treeline.

I've always been surprised how relatively hordeless this area has been in the past. All things must change, tho.
