Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 Four days 'til the new PRG is open for tuggin'. Passed by today and they've got tons of holds up in the beginner area already. Goodbye, overcrowded chalkdust-inhalation factory, hello new terrain and plenty of sickness to go 'round. Quote

They're having an open house on Saturday for all of us who helped in the construction. I'm gonna go and flash all the routes and leave my grimy prints all over the new holds before DFA gets a chance to even look at em. here's to ya DFA!! Quote

They put in three crack routes, too, which do more than just go straight up. Quote

b-rock Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 so, did anyone go this weekend? how'd it all look? Quote
ChrisT Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 I stopped by yesterday to sign the kids up for the beginner lessons (had a two for one coupon from the Chinook Book). Is it just me or does the new space seem not too much bigger than the old? I didn't see the bouldering section...but the studio seemed puny. All just a quick look tho' Quote
iain Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 I dunno, but I just skied 3 days in a row now Quote
b-rock Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Being in Bend this weekend and not being able to get out and ski was painful. At least I'm WFA trained now, feel free to get injured Quote
ChrisT Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Congrats Jeff! You can stitch me up anytime! Quote
iain Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 you'd best be keeping the needles away from the WFA's Quote
b-rock Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 Well, neither WFAs or WFRs are certified for stiching. The class doubled as a WFR recertification (about half the class was there recerting) and I was quite suprised at the ineptitude and lack of knowledge for most of these folks. Isn't WFR like an 80 hour class? Anyways, props to WMI, t'was a little pricey but the class and the instructors rocked, thanks to whoever here recomended them. Quote
iain Posted November 24, 2003 Posted November 24, 2003 the quality of WFRs out there varies widely some folks at those recerts have to take the exam multiple times to get a passing grade to get recertified. and WMI definitely does rock. Quote
layton Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 it was fun last night. nice new place. bouldering was crowded, but i expect less folks after the 1st week. I'm going there on a date tonight (unless she reads this site). Quote

Speaking from experience, if you don't use it you lose it. I can appreciate how someone who doesn't practice wilderness medicine (or any emergency medicine) would lose their skills in a years time. After I stopped working as an EMT my skills evaporated. Quote
b-rock Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Agreed. It just that a good number of these people were already working for professional guide companies... Maybe they don't get to 'use it' too much, but shit you'd think they'd at least keep their knowledge current. Quote
