luvshaker
They say it's "impossible" from the true summit. But is it possible? Has it ever been contemplated, attempted or completed to anyone's knowledge?
iain
dunno if it has been done. ask the old guys at the hoodoo bar. :-) but maybe the ne shoulder then make a sharp right down thayer hw. Would be straightforward after that but jawdropping first few moves, for sure. pretty much guaranteed fatality if that is not obvious. iain
those turns off the very top would be f'ing airy but then below the notch quite doable (and done) by the right folks.
luvshaker
That's easily the best photo I have ever seen of the Thayer.... Thanks!! In other pics (oregon high) I have seen snow piled up on the NE shoulder of the Prouty, ALMOST to the summit at different times. I am also aware of how steep that is.... Especially if one were to already be going 20mph when they first hit snow!!!
gapertimmy
post this ? to powdermag.com or tetongravity forums, look for schralper on either board, I believe he has skied from the top, or very close.
jhamaker
How close can I get to N Sister this winter? Will there be a snow-park NE of the pk?
kurthicks
depending on snow conditions, you can drive all the way to the Pole Creek TH all year. if i remember correctly, it's at about 5400'. other than that, you could possibly access the mountain from the Scott Pass TH which is a little lower. Going in that way takes you to the NE spur of the N ridge which is good for doing the traverse.... i miss that area.
