Third tool?

How many of you ice climbers carry a third tool? I always carry an extra for fear of dropping one and being screwed without an extra. I see a lot of ice climbing pictures where the climber does not seem to have a third. Scary!

what he meant to say was...unless you think you may need a third tool to throw at your belayer below, the only good thing to use a third tool for is to loan to someone who only has one.

I just did another search with a variation of the search subject ("3rd tool") that turned up about another dozen threads. The possibilities are endless!

I used to carry one , but never needed one. I stopped bringing one along and I broke a pick 30 feet out from the belay on the third pitch of the Black Dike[ 5- Cannon Cliff, New Hampshire ] .Had to down climb on the stump, then borrow one of my partners tools to finish the lead.I might just start carrying a third tool again. Atleast on longer routes.
