allthumbs Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 http://www.nationalreview.com/comment/wheeler200310220911.asp Posted 10/23/2003 In a marvelous moment of candor, a federal Centers for Disease Control (CDC) committee has reported that it cannot find any evidence that gun-control laws reduce violent crime. American gun owners spent most of the 1990s telling the CDC that gun control is ineffective at best and harmful at worst. So it's gratifying that the lesson is finally sinking in. A task force convened by the CDC issued its report after two years of poring over 51 scientific studies of gun laws. The group considered only research papers that met strict criteria for scientific soundness. The CDC distances itself with a disclaimer, but it's pretty clear that it supports the task force's conclusions. The report contains no dissenting position or minority view from CDC managers. Stick that in your pipes and smoke it, motherfuckers! Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 There never has been meaningful gun control, so how can anyone tell wether it works or not? Quote
allthumbs Posted October 24, 2003 Author Posted October 24, 2003 ...what was that...a fucking argument? I thought not...shut up catturd and go back to your corner. Quote
j_b Posted October 24, 2003 Posted October 24, 2003 The Task Force found insufficient evidence to determine the effectiveness of any of the firearms laws or combinations of laws reviewed on violent outcomes. (Note that insufficient evidence to determine effectiveness should not be interpreted as evidence of ineffectiveness.) http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/rr5214a2.htm Quote

j_b Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 that wheeler dude has serious reading comprehension issues (or is plain lying). so much for objective journalism ... Quote
allthumbs Posted October 25, 2003 Author Posted October 25, 2003 that's your rebuttal? weak as your sperm count. Quote
j_b Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 it's actually a classic example of the deception that we see so much of these days. tell a lie and even if caught red-handed some of it will stick anyway. pathetic. Quote
EWolfe Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 I like Chris Rock's idea: "Man, if you make bullets $5000 each, there would be no problems! "You go up to a dude you'd love to cap, and say: " Man! I'mm gonna KILL YOU! When I can afford it. I'm gonna get a second job, save real hard, and I'M GONNA KILL YOU!" Quote
Dru Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 maybe the CDC should do a study on the effectiveness of the death penalty in reducing violent crime next Quote
allthumbs Posted October 25, 2003 Author Posted October 25, 2003 I knew you wanks would dis the truth. Business as usual. Quote
Dru Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 if gun control doesn't reduce violent crime, doesn't that also mean that gun PROLIFERATION doesn't reduce violent crime, (crime level the same no matter how many guns available) so the claim that criminals are less likely to commit crime when anybody might be carrying, is so much BS trask? scrambler Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 I blame the increase in violence to the increase in videotaping. Quote
allthumbs Posted October 25, 2003 Author Posted October 25, 2003 studies have shown (including interviewing prisoners) that bad guys are less likely to commit crimes against an individual in states that allow concealed carry. the bad guys just don't know who may or may not be packin. it's just the truth, whether you want to argue it or not. That's not what the CDC report says! It says they were no less likely to commit crimes when more guns were carried....they probably carried guns themselves -its just the first shot wins theory! If you know your victim has guns you come in blazing and shoot him first. Quote

It's not the sane people that have firearms that bother me. It's the small percentage of borderline cases that have access that are worrisome. Quote

Scott_J Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 Gun control in my way of thinking is being able to place your shots where they count. If you don't like my guns MOVE or fuck off. Trask, I finished my recurve today. Its nice...55pound pull bow witha 28 inch draw. Looks beautiful...so now not only do I have to have GUN CONTROL but also BOW control. hahahaha...would be nice to see those ass holes that broke into my car with a bow and stick one with an arrow. RIGHT IN THE ASS. That would make a good hospital and police report. Quote
catbirdseat Posted October 25, 2003 Posted October 25, 2003 Why is it that we call consumer protection laws and automobile licensing laws "regulation", but we call any laws as applied to gun, "control"? We don't use that word in any other instance I can think of. Gun Control is a phrase coined by the NRA because it sounds bad. Quote
