hakioawa Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 All you geeks. I downloaded a CD ripper a few weeks ago. It installed a TON of random spyware crap. I got rid of most of it. But now it seems to have taken over Internet Explorer or my TCP/IP-DNS stack. Randomly when clicking on a like I get redirected to all sored of web paeges I didn't ask for. Like "superpages.com". Its taken over and I can't get rid of it!!!!!! Any ideas?? Quote
Dru Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 system restore to the last date before you installed it? Quote
hakioawa Posted October 18, 2003 Author Posted October 18, 2003 Yeah I could. Its just such a hassel. I think there should be an easier way. Maybe unilstall all networking? Then try to reinstall IE? Quote
hakioawa Posted October 18, 2003 Author Posted October 18, 2003 I usually use opera, but Certian sites I need for work don't render. Outlook webmail etc. Quote
hakioawa Posted October 18, 2003 Author Posted October 18, 2003 Come to think of it it must be IE, cause I don't get the re-directs in Opera. SO it can't be the network stack. Quote
neversummer Posted October 18, 2003 Posted October 18, 2003 Download a program called ad aware from www.downloads.com, Update it and then run it and quarantine EVERYTHING that it finds. Its kinda like Virus software for spyware (same damn thing in my mind). Quote
hakioawa Posted October 19, 2003 Author Posted October 19, 2003 Tried that. It didn't work. Any other ideas? Quote

Try this instead. Hit 'Ctrl-Alt-Delete' to bring up Task Manager. Note the running processes, write these down or something. Now, go on to this site: task list programs Go through the Task List Programs to see which ones are legitimate and which ones appear to be malware. This may take some time but will cure your problem. BTW, there are some zeroday viruses out there that affect MS IE because patches have not yet been developed by MS Security. In that case, if you know what you are doing, you can go to site called Hacktivismo and do a search for remedies that involve modifying your registries. Use caution whem modifying your registries. Ratboy Posted October 19, 2003 Posted October 19, 2003 Try SpyBot. I've found it catches a lot of things Ad-Aware doesn't. Quote

Gaston_Lagaffe Posted October 20, 2003 Posted October 20, 2003 I got a spyware with a program I downloaded, but it had an entry for it in the Add/Remove Software in the Ctrl Panel so I just removed it through that and it worked fine. Check it. Quote
