Farrgo Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 I'm trying to go down to the C. Blanca for some climbing this summer and am looking for tickets. I have heard that you should be able to find tickets for 600-800 but from the quotes I've been getting off of the websites its more like 1200 is the cheapest. Does anybody know of a good place to look for tickets or a good travel agent that could help me out? Thanks. Quote
scott_harpell Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 given your avatar, i would guess you are a student. you can find many student travel sites on the net which are 60-80% cheaper than for he old-farts. Quote
Rodchester Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 I was there in 1998 and only paid $450.00. I have friends that go there somewhat often and I tried to go back this past summer and found that the rates have really gone up: 9/11, cost of fuel, economy in general? I don't know, but they are more expensive and that sucks. Peru is such a great country and the Blanca rocks!!! Sorry I couldn't be a help to you. I just wanted to let you know that others have had similar problems in the recent past. You may want to wait until January to check. The airlines usually don't schedule out more than 6 months and if the travel volume is low, maybe then they'll lower prices to induce travel. Let us know, because I really want to go back with the wife. Good Luck!!! Quote
Sabertooth Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 I was there in 1997, and almost went 2 years ago. Try using http://www.Hotwire.com to book your flights. If you don't mind not picking the time, airline, or not getting any frequent flier miles, you can get some incredible deals there. You should prebook your bus ride up to Huaraz as well. That route can get pretty busy during the season. Quote
Lambone Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 My wife and I were planing to go visit the Torres Del Paine over Christmas...but the cheapest plane tickets were like 2,000 each Quote
gnibmilc Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 i looked into tickets to Chile and have ended up seriously thinking about driving. any ideas on how to get that road trip laid out? obviously it's an extra month each way... Quote
Lambone Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 Whatever you do, don't drive through Columbia! I had some friends drive a UNIMOG type vehicle back from Patagonia. They flew from Peru to Panama and paid someone to drive their truck through Columbia...he said it was an amazing trip otherwise though... Quote
jdog Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 look in the travel section in the seattle times sunday paper. go with one of those little travel angencies that mostly deals with travel to and from south america, they usually have price quotes in the sunday paper. i believe we went with buena vista travel out of bellevue in 2000. blue_morph Posted October 17, 2003 Posted October 17, 2003 http://www.statravel.com/statravel/flights/fl_ColumbusResults.aspx?menuid=1001S1 You just need to convince them you are a student. Very easy. $714 seems pretty reasonable considerring how far it is. Quote
