Billygoat Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 The HP tech rep thinks I should do a system restore. I have some basic software glitches but he seems reluctant to troubleshoot. Is it effective or just more expedient (cheap and simple) for them to perform? I've backed up all my data but what about all the MS and Symantec updates? Will I have to do those all again?! what should I be wary of.... Quote
allthumbs Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 I believe you have to start all over. Save addresses, files, everything you can. It's like getting a new computer. Quote
Billygoat Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 You don't think it's worth troubleshooting the glitches? Like the code is too buried. I just wondered if it is a cop out like saying " oh you're having engine trouble, here let's just replace the engine" Quote
Cpt.Caveman Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 If you have Windows XP you can do a system restore by date. It worked for me. It's shitty too if you dont. I would not be afraid if you are not erasing something important.. Quote
Billygoat Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 That's good to know I just don't like the hassle factor. I'll have to redo my settings and redownload my updates as far as I can tell. I am still on dial-up and it takes forever Quote
PONCHO&LEFTY Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 I have probably done it 6 times. There are diiferent levels of restoration, plus it is reversible. Try it! Quote
Billygoat Posted October 16, 2003 Author Posted October 16, 2003 Did you have to redownload all your updates? Is there a way to save them to disk before I restore? Quote
Dru Posted October 16, 2003 Posted October 16, 2003 I did a XP restore and didn't lose nothin update wise but the otherwise unsolvable problem I had was fixedski and has not bothered me again. It's kinda like saving a computer game and then when you get killed u just go back and start from the point you saved at. Quote
