Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 (edited) Looks like August and September are shaping up to be good for new music. We got new shit from Pennywise, The Slackers, and of course, RANCID. 2003 has gotta be the best summer ever for new punk rock releases. And don't forget Hot Water Music at the Meow Meow on August 16th! Edited August 6, 2003 by Dr_Flash_Amazing Quote
Dru Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 Punk is creatively dead and has been since the second wave in 1995. You are listening to a fossilized sound trapped in the same tired formula. Get with the 21st century DFA Rex. Quote
Greg_W Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 Just got turned on to Nevermore and Type O Negative recently. That is some kick ass metal, man. Saw Nevermore live last month - fucking awesome. T.O.N. is at Showbox in a couple weeks. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Shit, man, there's plenty of new shit going on in punk rock! Lots more crying and thrift store pants, and then after the crying part, there's this apocolyptic explosion of incomprehensible screaming and atomic distortion. It's true that a lot of punk bands are putting out more or less the same 1-2-3-4 three-chord shit they were playing back in the day, but y'know what? It fuckin' rocks, so why fuck with the formula? And plenty of bands like Hot Water, Alkaline Trio, SBB, and The Honor System, among others, are doing great new shit. So don't go knockin' it 'til you tried it, bubba. Quote
allthumbs Posted August 6, 2003 Posted August 6, 2003 you're cracked. punk is for geeks and losers. get on board numbnuts. Quote

If you like them, you might want to check out Grip Inc too. Not as operatic of a voice, but just as heavy. If you don't mind growl-singers over excellent music, you gotta check out In Flames. Caught them at the Showbox last month with Soilwork, Chimaira and Unearth. Fucking awesome show. Quote
Dr_Flash_Amazing Posted August 6, 2003 Author Posted August 6, 2003 Who'da thunk Greg was into that metalcore shit? Try Neurosis, they'll freak you right out. Might give your kid nightmares, though. Quote
