scott_johnston Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Has anyone been on the pocket glacier used as an approach to the NE Butt. of Mt Slesse this summer? I've used this approach before but want any current or recent route info. Thanks Quote
Dru Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 was told it was casual a couple weeks ago but who knows what its like now or if its even there Quote
flatland Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 Jerry at marmot was there and said that it fell of on monday night but that there were still remnants falling of during the night. We will be there tommarrow and will get back with an update. Quote

Led_Hed Posted July 22, 2003 Posted July 22, 2003 My partner and I approached the NE Buttress early morning Saturday and heard 90% of the pocket glacier go sliding off in oblivion. We continued approaching the route and crossed to the notch between the pocket glacier and propeller cairn. The remaining 10% of the glacier threatened the slabs below so we choose to bail. There were also two big "fins" of snow guarding the ramp leading to the NE butt. so as far as we could tell the "complete" was the only way to go. Shouldn't take long to clear up completely though. Dru Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 It slid Friday night, Saturday morning, and Monday, huh. With staying power like that all the girls will want some. Quote
iain Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 is it really a glacier if it disappears every year? Quote
Dru Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 is a pocket glacier a glacier any more than a pocket gopher is a gopher Quote
Hal_Burton Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 Is that a glacier in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? Worse yet, is that a gopher in your pocket? Quote
iain Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 word is, the pocket glacier slid off today. it will also slide off tomorrow. Quote
erik Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 wait..........nobody post here until drul does. he always knows! Quote
Dru Posted July 23, 2003 Posted July 23, 2003 i skipped it. it is a drilled pocket manufactured by crazed sport climbers, not a natural pocket Quote
Off_White Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 Then I suppose if conditions were shitty it would be pocket poo. Quote
Dumpster_Diver Posted July 24, 2003 Posted July 24, 2003 All beta points to easier. What are you waiting for? A Star magazine update! If you can't get to the bypass then do the direct. I think the notch approach is lame. Quote
