SReno Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Has anyone been up the Silver Glacier this year? I'm heading up there on the 23rd and wondering what conditions have been. We're hoping we're not too late to do the route. Quote
mattp Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Reno - Don't sweat it. If you have the gumption to hike all the way up there (I'm not saying it is all that desparate, but it is quite enough to separate the men from the boys), you'll do fine on the route. Seriously. Quote
Dru Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 it is NEVER too late for silver glacier. intact all year long. if not climb SW ridge. Quote
ncascademtns Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Yes, Straight forward on the Silver Glacier with a little scramble at the summit. Good Peak to BAG. Better also BAG Custer while your up there! Quote
SReno Posted July 15, 2003 Author Posted July 15, 2003 Now if that pic don't pique the interest, I don't know what will. What an awesome place! Thanks for the encouragment. The plan is to do Redoubt via the Redoubt Glacier, Spickard and Custer. Quote
Coopah Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 Would love a TR. I am planning on doing those 3 peaks next year. Any beta you give will be most appreciated!! Quote
Ursa_Eagle Posted July 15, 2003 Posted July 15, 2003 so I assume you're going in through Depot Creek. Hehehehe, have fun. Seriously, the approach isn't that bad, you cover most of the elevation by the falls on a talus slope. If you want any beta for the NE Face of Redoubt, let me know! (We had planned to do Spickard as well, but that didn't happen.) Quote

Coopah Posted July 21, 2003 Posted July 21, 2003 True True...but there are other routes my friend that you haven't done... Quote
SReno Posted July 22, 2003 Author Posted July 22, 2003 Yeah, we're headed in via Depot Creek. Hoping it's not too overgrown. The weather report is awesome for the trip. The only thing that will stop us from the summit is us, like just choosing to lounge in the sun at camp. What's it like getting off the glacier onto the ridge and then up to the summit on Spickard? I'm guessing we can get along fine with just some webbing and leave the rock pro at home. Quote
