Peter_Puget Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 You’re pretty close on your guess EriK. Oh wait, this is Sweet Renton Limestone. The real question is why everyone isn’t going nuts about it. Check it out! It isn’t that funky Utah stuff this stuff is straight from Verdon Gorge! Where is DFA when you need him? There is lots of this stuff out nearby. PP Quote

Peter_Puget Posted June 12, 2003 Author Posted June 12, 2003 North of Spokane there are formations like this and better than this all over the area. The drive from Seattle is no longer than Smith. This cliff was visible from the main highway and a flat 100yd walk off a secondary road. The entire cliff was about ¼ mile wide and of varying height. About half was overhanging the rest slightly less than vertical with some bulges. PP Quote
Norsky Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Enough of this nebulous talk of "Van Island" or "Chiliwack" limestone. Is it worth a trip? Should I dust off the Hilti? Quote
Peter_Puget Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 Enough of this nebulous talk of "Van Island" or "Chiliwack" limestone. Is it worth a trip? Should I dust off the Hilti? The pics are from just north of Spokane. Right outside Kettle Falls. Is it worth a drive? Depends on how much you like exploring. For me it is a blast and definately worth the drive. There are established areas over there. Marty Bland has written a really good guidebook to them. He also has a website. So spend a day exploring and one climbing. PP This picture shows the low angle section of the cliff. Quote
j_b Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 varying height but usually ~50 ft? or is there anything bigger? Quote
Peter_Puget Posted June 13, 2003 Author Posted June 13, 2003 There are some larger cliffs but the stuff were on was all small probably one reason we didn't see evidence of other climbers. We spent only one hour in the am looking for cliffs and after seeing the cool rock at this crag we stopped looking and started climbing. As you can tell by the pics we were TR'ing. We had a drill and placed some anchors but after starting bolting a route thought that TR'ing was were it was at at this cliff. PP Quote
