gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 so i finally gathered all the goodies to get the at setup complete: 178 rosi xxx, free rides, and denali xt took em out for the first spin today, splendid but being this is my frist AT setup, one thing seemed odd, my lower leg seemed awfully upright compared to my normal alpine boots. is this normal? it made me feel like i was hangin back too much. suggestions, thoughts, spary appreciated.... E-rock Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 The upright nature of AT (and telemark) boots is to facilitate comfortable walking. You will adjust and your skiing technique will improve now that you no longer have the crutch of boots that force you to stay out of the back seat. Quote
gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2003 Author Posted March 17, 2003 man, more work eh? i'll clean the sand out of my crotch and go ski more. love the xXx's though, and the price was right, $225 for ski/boot/bindings WORD WORD WORD Quote
iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 yeah, you have to focus on keeping out of the back seat. w/ freerides, some have removed the front shim to angle the binding more. I flail enough that I wouldn't even notice that modification. The denalis (if that's what you're using) can push you back a bit too. Quote
iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 wow xxx's w/ freerides! hope you're wearing a parachute Quote
gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2003 Author Posted March 17, 2003 yep, i thought it might have a little bit to do with the boot... what about messing with the canting mechanisim on the boot at all? i'm gonna go chuck my meat on tumalo w00t w00t Quote
iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 canting I believe only adjusts the lateral angle on the boot. Just make sure you get the forward lean set to it's max. On mine, I have to get into the bindings, lean way forward, flip the walk thingy down, and then lean forward until they snap into ski mode. have fun on tumalo, probably set up real nice right now in that north bowl. oregon classic. b-rock Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 If the Denali's are like the Lasers, there is a canting adjustment; I found I like mine best pretty far forward. Quote

E-rock Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 Careful there, as Iain was saying above, cant adjusts the "bowlegged" factor of the boots, nothing else. Quote
b-rock Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 Ha, and don't forget the walk switch, kind of obvious, but I've flailed through many a turn because I forgot. Or was too stoned. Hmmm, whatever. Quote

iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 leave the heel risers up too, then every slope is a 50 degree sick fest! Quote

iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 now if they could sell that boot in a non-baby blue color Quote
snoboy Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 Nice rig! I think they got you covered, but there is: 1) Canting - just like an alpine boot. side to side. 2) Walk/Ski mode - little switchy thing on back of boot. Probably has 3 positions walk (open), forward lean, and more forward lean. Now there's still one thing missing, no? FRESHIEZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2003 Author Posted March 17, 2003 the baby blue matches my one piece ski suit though, i like... and it matches my apres turtleneck that all the chicks LOVE> Quote
gapertimmy Posted March 17, 2003 Author Posted March 17, 2003 i think i'm in love with my new skis .... excusing myself to go hump them some more amazing how much better the boots are when not in walk mode Quote
iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 only problem with those setups is I injure myself far more often because I try a lot of stupid shit in them. stupid jumps and whatnot Quote
iain Posted March 17, 2003 Posted March 17, 2003 just stupid. 16 year old brain in 26 year old body Quote
