so i finally gathered all the goodies to get the at setup complete:

178 rosi xxx, free rides, and denali xt

took em out for the first spin today, splendid

but being this is my frist AT setup, one thing seemed odd, my lower leg seemed awfully upright compared to my normal alpine boots. is this normal? it made me feel like i was hangin back too much.

suggestions, thoughts, spary appreciated....

The upright nature of AT (and telemark) boots is to facilitate comfortable walking. You will adjust and your skiing technique will improve now that you no longer have the crutch of boots that force you to stay out of the back seat.

yeah, you have to focus on keeping out of the back seat. w/ freerides, some have removed the front shim to angle the binding more. I flail enough that I wouldn't even notice that modification. The denalis (if that's what you're using) can push you back a bit too.

yep, i thought it might have a little bit to do with the boot... what about messing with the canting mechanisim on the boot at all?

i'm gonna go chuck my meat on tumalo w00t w00t

canting I believe only adjusts the lateral angle on the boot. Just make sure you get the forward lean set to it's max. On mine, I have to get into the bindings, lean way forward, flip the walk thingy down, and then lean forward until they snap into ski mode. have fun on tumalo, probably set up real nice right now in that north bowl. oregon classic. thumbs_up.gif

wow xxx's w/ freerides! shocked.gifshocked.gifshocked.gif hope you're wearing a parachute

i have some built into my denalis (perhaps this is why they are so upright) and a little trigger switch on my poles to deploy them, its SICK

Ha, and don't forget the walk switch, kind of obvious, but I've flailed through many a turn because I forgot. Or was too stoned. Hmmm, whatever.

Careful there, as Iain was saying above, cant adjusts the "bowlegged" factor of the boots, nothing else.

Ya, sorry, confused my terminology, I meant the forward lean.

Nice rig!

I think they got you covered, but there is:

1) Canting - just like an alpine boot. side to side.

2) Walk/Ski mode - little switchy thing on back of boot. Probably has 3 positions walk (open), forward lean, and more forward lean.

Now there's still one thing missing, no?
