Montana_Climber Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Does anyone have any experience with this piece? I'm looking to replace my Feathered Friends Jackorak. The Jackorak is just too light weight and doesn't have taped seams. Anything more than a slight drizzle gets me soaking wet in about 10 minutes. The other shell I'm considering is one of the GoLite shells. I think I prefer the pit zips on the Cloudveil with only the marginal (1-2 oz) weight difference. Quote
cracked Posted March 11, 2003 Posted March 11, 2003 Not experience, but whatever: I tried it on, after reading some favorable reviews, but the fit is very strange. The arms seemed long enough, but even the XL didn't fit my forearms. The entire thing just fit strangely. For about $50 more you can get the Arc'teryx Sirrus SL which is lighter, Goretex, and has a great cut. Currently I use a Sierra Designs Peak Bagger, which I am reasonably happy with. Good luck! Quote
Montana_Climber Posted March 12, 2003 Author Posted March 12, 2003 The Arc'Teryx Sirrus is the other jacket I'm looking at in this category. I can't go wrong with either. I used to work and ski with the marketing director at Cloudveil and used to work and paddle with several of the reps for Arc'Teryx. Cost isn't the issue so much as function and fit. Thanks for the input. Quote
Lambone Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 Wow, web site says Lows of +2 and highs of 11! How can Honeyman be in, or anything for that matter??? Quote

erik Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 i acutally have the patagonai stretch lite jacket. best jacket i own, the acrteryx chills at home most of the time... Â Â Quote
allthumbs Posted March 12, 2003 Posted March 12, 2003 I recently purchased the sirrus. Went diving in it the other day in the kelp beds off deception pass. I got wet...fucker leaks. Quote
Montana_Climber Posted March 13, 2003 Author Posted March 13, 2003 That sucks! Was it from the seams or from the zippers or just straight through the fabric? I currently live in a place where we get 300" of rain a year (and you thought Seattle was bad?). I'm tired of getting soaked in my jacket on the 10 minute ride on my bike. For the mountains I'm using a Mountain Hardwear Ethereal FTX but in the jungles here (Dominica) it isn't practicle. That's why I'm looking for something really lightweight but is still totally waterproof. Quote
allthumbs Posted March 13, 2003 Posted March 13, 2003 dude, I was kiddin. the sirrus is an awesome jacket. Quote
Montana_Climber Posted March 14, 2003 Author Posted March 14, 2003 Sorry Trask. Never know when you're talkin shit here. I'll look into it more carefully as an option. Thanks. Quote
allthumbs Posted March 14, 2003 Posted March 14, 2003 I've got the sirrus and the bird's heavier theta or beta or some hardman coat. I like the 10oz. sirrus for 90% of what I do. If I want to get towed behind a car by a rope on a gravel rode for fun, I'd use the heavier fucker. Quote
erik Posted March 16, 2003 Posted March 16, 2003 IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A WATER PROOF JACKET THEN I WOULD STAY AWAY FROM GORE TEX.. Â GO WITH RUBBERIZED NYLON. Â Â Quote
Montana_Climber Posted March 16, 2003 Author Posted March 16, 2003 I've used enough Gore-tex to know how well it works. A slow seepage of water is fine in really warm temps. It's the sudden downpour through the seams that I don't like. I don't mind getting a little wet in exchange for some good breathability. Quote
leejams Posted March 16, 2003 Posted March 16, 2003 Mt. gear https://www.mgear.com/pages/product/product.asp?item=246087&level3_id=0&level1_id=0&level2_id=0 has a closeout sale of there precip anorak pullover jacket. Quote
