allthumbs Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 I watched Fred last night. I enjoyed the show and am impressed with Fred's knowledge of the Cascades and also his "laid-back" approach to climbing and his accomplishments. Quote
Dru Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 yes i believe many of Freds accomplishments have been laid back, or back-to-back he hasn't yet written a book on that though i suspect it would be a bit like "Women" by Bukowski. Quote
allthumbs Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 Yeah well, I wasn't referring to his "spooning adventures" with whoever. I guess you'd know more about that. Quote

Yeah, the most impressive part of the show was how matter-of-fact and "no big deal" his whole discussion was. I guess for Fred, talking about first ascents in the Cascades is about like me talking about mowing my back yard, just something you do. One bit of added trivia -- he talked about the railroad engineer Stevens who found Stevens pass. He later went on to be the chief engineer of the Panama Canal for several years. Quote

"You've got to fuck a great many women beautiful women and write a few decent love poems. and don't worry about age and/or freshly-arrived talent. just drink more beer more and more beer" You gotta love Bukowski. I just picked up "Love is a Dog from Hell" the other week. and is the pursuit of happiness. Quote
pope Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 About ten years ago, Fred taught a Cascade history course at Green River CC. I was very impressed with his knowledge of the Cascades (and he seemed impressed with my girlfriend ). Quote
