The easiest way to get to Park City from the airport is to take a shuttle bus. That's one of the appeals of Park City for skiers visiting Utah; You don't have to rent a car. check this for ideas on what's available. E-rock Posted March 5, 2003 Share Posted March 5, 2003 Timmay, if you want to stay in Salt Lake, there's a youth hostel in the avenues that's supposed to be pretty cheap (the avenues are the neighborhood on the hill on the north end of town). Don't know why you're going to Park City (work?) but staying in Salt Lake and riding in the Cottonwoods is a WAY better experience than what Park City has to offer. There are several ways to get up the canyons from SLC using public transit, however the routes are kinda screwy these days and take longer than they should. ski_photomatt Posted March 5, 2003 Share Posted March 5, 2003 Second what E-rock said. Unless you have another compelling reason to go to Park Shitty, skip it for one of the Cottonwood canyons. Hard not to ski Alta if you ski and don't board (no snowboards allowed at Alta). The city runs public transit all over and up both canyons to the ski areas. Once you get close to the base of the canyons, hitching is possible. I've done it successfully and have seen many others have success too. Salt Lake is sprawl and the public transit is far from efficient, better to stay somewhere close to the bottom of the canyons to make the trip to the ski areas a little easier. Well, if you recall, there was this high-profile winter sports event in Salt Lake last year. Part of that involved getting lots of funds for public transportation (the Interstate 15 has been undergoing construction pretty much the whole time I've lived in this state), and part of it involved the largest domestic deployment of troops ever. Last February was not the time for backcountry, night-time skiing. The funniest part was that the city handed out bus tickets to Las Vegas to every homeless person they could find. I guess SLC probably benifits in the long run besides just the influx of retail money from the olympics. Whatever the reasons, however, it's still ridiculous that seattle can't get it's act together. For skiing, I agree the Cottonwoods rock, but for partying, nothing beats Park(less) City. You just need to know how to navigate the club situation. For one or two nights, just hang out in front of the bar you want to go in and ask someone to "sponsor" you. One membership gets something like 8 people in and lasts 2 weeks. Once your in, you don't have to hang out with them. If you know a local, you'll be fine. We used to take 'shrooms and go down to the Mormon square at christmas to see all the lights. Their corporate rate was $89 a night, and included a cooked breakfast and complimentary cocktails every evening. Close to downtown and only two blocks from TRAXX.
