minx Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 i see the real trask has returned from cabo and as usual greg is suffering from an inferiority complex. Quote
Greg_W Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Good one, minx; but I meant the small retail store. Not the vertically (or other dimensions) challenged. Quote
Billygoat Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Oops! I lost my head. Geez Greg you are kinda liberal in some ways. Quote
tomcat Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 $70. I'm not sure how I got that much, but I'll take it! Quote

Just because I'm conservative doesn't mean that I believe in the diety of the corporate juggernaut; I believe in the power of the individual. To me, shopping at small climbing shops helps preserve marketplace competition; there is also additional intrinsic value in the presence of locally owned and operated climbing shops, with actual climbers working there. allthumbs Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Lyin' bastard. Everyone knows you shop PMS to get in TLG's pants. Quote
Billygoat Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 Exactly. I try not to shop at REI. I've just noticed that when people are either poor or middle class, it doesn't matter whether they claim to be right or left wing, the common issues bind them together and that usually involves rich people trying to take money from them. That's why at the WTO, we had blue collar workers protesting alongside hippies. I think it benefits those few in power to have the working class, right and left masses (mobs in their parlance) to have us fighting about abortion, gun control, welfare etc. rather than focusing on corporate welfare, corporate criminals, bad foreign policy, and taxation. I don't know what kind of pseudo-socialist, social-democractic upbringing you had, but your "theory" is extremely flawed. "Working class"?? How do you think most rich people got that way? By working their asses off. How do you think they stay that way? By working their asses off. It cracks me up that just because I make good money, I no longer "work" I am simply "rich". Check your premises, friend. If you are left wing, we have no common issues; I don't care how much money you make. The reason for this is that your "issues" are very different from mine simply because of the view of government's role in "society" that you hold. Quote
Billygoat Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 I'm a little bit of both. I am a business man and I have liberal leaning. I build things out of wood but I want to save the old growth. I build mansions for rich corporate people and low income housing. I own guns, shoot animals and eat them, and drive a big American truck, but I also think there should be gun control, I shop at the Co-op, and think Big Fat Americans should not be driving SUVs if all they are doing is commuting to a desk job. They should have a toyota hybrid. I guess that makes me a progressive Quote
Billygoat Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 I just know from experience that once you get past a certain point the money you have makes money for you in a snowball effect and when you start hangin' out with the people that have access to real power you start influencing policy and that most of the real power and money is concentrated in the hands of the very few. It cost rich people far less to build a house than poor or middle class people. Greg, even if you make $500,00 a year, you are still only upper middle class and you are being taxed to hell, and you don't do your banking off shore, and you have very little real influence over your congressman. Damn thread drift! Will bite you in the ass everytime... Quote

By your own words you do not believe in personal freedom or the paramount rights of the individual. Everything you said smacks of "collectivism", which is REGRESSIVE, not PROGRESSIVE. Collectivism doesn't promote the progress of anything; it promotes the regression of the successful down to the level of the lowest common denominator. Regarding rich or poor, a man's money is HIS and his alone; regardless of the quantity he has. Edited February 23, 2003 by Greg_W Quote
allthumbs Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 So fucking what? What the hell can we do about it? Piss and moan till the cows come home...nothin's gonna change. Fuck it...Starting now, I'm looking out for #1 and gonna do everything in my power to enjoy myself and live the good life. You dudes can go save the planet. First thing tomorrow morning I'm ordering a Ford Excursion with the biggest fucking V-8 they offer and a pulling' 4.10 rear end that gets 7 mpg. I'm going to burn more gas that Greg's ass after a Taco Time binge. Quote
