Also a friend of a friend of a friend. It isn't a large Tribe.  :(

Sorry to hear about the deaths this past weekend, it certainly isn't a safe activity we practice.

wise sir do not grieve

it is always better to avenge dear ones

than to indulge in mourning

for every one of us living in this world

means waiting for our end

let he who can achieve glory before death

when a warrior is gone

that will be his best and only bulwark

Jim was a student of mine in the BOEALPS Intermediate Climbing Class in 2010. He went on to instruct with the class in later years and we had a blast climbing together. He was a great student and a wonderful instructor and many climbers around the area can attribute their skill to Jim's teaching efforts. To top it all off, he was a master spray lord and could both dish out and take climbing smack talk like no other. This is truly awful.

I cannot believe this suddenly happened. It doesn't seem real.

I'm grieving.  Jim was a friend of mine.  He was one of the nicest, funniest, and genuine guys I've ever known.  I never heard anyone say a bad word about him and I never heard him say a bad word about someone else.  That seems rare nowadays, and is a testament to what a good guy he was.  And it was infectious.  He was full of positive energy and rubbed off on anyone who came in contact with him.  I'm a better person for having known him.

I don't think he posted on here, but he's shown up in an occasional trip report or two.  He's the "Jim" in the Dark-Bonanza-Martin traverse last summer.  Second to last picture, guy on the left:

There's a service on Saturday 8/11 from 2-5PM at the Edline-Yahn & Covington Funeral Chapel in Kent.

Stay safe out there.  This is hard to stomach.

Im sorry, Dana...cant imagine what you're going thru.  Didn't know Jim well but he seemed like a great human.  I imagine the whole Boealps club is struggling with this. Take care of yourself, my friend.
