Alisse Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 I want: OK snow OK weather No more than 2.5 hours from Seattle Where?! Quote
AlpineK Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Forecasts call for rain in mountain passes/ski areas on Friday. Sunday would probably be better than Saturday. Probably BC skiing near Stevens, Crystal, or Baker ski area (if you push the 2.5 hr drive limit). NOAA calls for rain at Snoqualmie on Sunday Quote
JasonG Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 And I want to retire tomorrow. Neither of us are going to get our wishes this weekend, however. Checking the NWAC reports of current surface conditions, and looking at the NWS forecasts, it is well below my definition of OK anywhere within 2.5 hours of Seattle this weekend (unless you fly north). But a great weekend to spent time with the family and bank hall passes! Quote
Frankazoid Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Found good turns east of the crest on consistent texture/ density windpack while the passes were glazed over, earlier this week.. Before departing all seemed hopeless - Not so. There will be good skiing out there, somewhere. Quote
JasonG Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 That was before the massive inversion really kicked in, however. Many places went from pretty OK Monday (my experience on north facing slopes in North Cascades) to crap by yesterday (per the NWAC pro obs and telemetry). I have no doubt that deep on the east side, and high, you can still find something worthwhile, but that isn't really less than 2.5 hours from Seattle. But I'll look forward to someone posting something that proves me wrong next Monday. For me, half the fun is the conditions betting game. It is way more fun when you make a hard prediction and see how it compares to reality. 1 Quote
Novert Posted January 4, 2018 Posted January 4, 2018 Doesn't this come down to choosing the proper wax? Quote

AlpineK Posted January 7, 2018 Posted January 7, 2018 On Saturday snow around Chair peak featured nice new snow on top of old avalanche debris and limited visibility above Source Lake. Quote
AlpineK Posted January 9, 2018 Posted January 9, 2018 There was 2-inches of fresh on top of a kick your ass crust. Quote
